There have been many debates about that, both in court and in the public square.
It’s not in any way clear that Amendment 16...if it was ever actually ratified...can simply overrule Amendment 4.
Rules of Construction are made so as to avoid redundancy and contradiction.
An exception was made by the courts over the last 70 years because of the character of the individuals appointed, their basic outlook, and the degree to which they sought to serve their masters.
Like declaring a person to be a malleable concept that transcends biology, the notion of declaring one part of the Constitution to be inferior to another simply based on sequence of adoption is a notion which likely won’t survive.
But everything takes time.
In the meantime, we all genuflect and go along with the fiction.
Kinda like the notion that the current guy in office got there legitimately.
Thanks!
‘I always used to joke with the line, “I don’t pay taxes; I got a refund.”
this year, because my wife realized a capital loss on a stock investment whose sale resulted in the preferred stockholders gobbling all the proceeds, the $3,000 write off allowance more than offset our tax liability, and made for a decent refund...
we get two more years to realize this capital loss, so two more years of refund, regardless of my RMD’s from retirement accounts...
Here we are 109 YEARS later and.. well, I think most see where and what we've arrived at.
It's become nothing more than a "feeding trough" for GREEDY politicians to get rich.
That's exactly WHY they despised Trump. He TURNED OVER, and in many cases, SHUT DOWN that feeding trough of MONEY available to grifter politicians.
Our ENERGY INDEPENDENCE was but one example.
Kinda like today. You're paying 2021 taxes this year, so in 1914, you'd pay 2013 taxes.
‘...was implemented for supposedly a TWO YEAR period to help defray the Country’s cost of World War One.’
two years to flatten the curve...
No. I do... Why do you think I sound so pissed off all the time?
You're "right as rain" on that Irish.
The government practically counts on the folks eating the next warm bowl of $HIT they serve up.
while taxation is required to run any govt body, ‘progressive taxation’ is just a ponzi scheme setup to vilify those at the top.
The Founders would never have approved such a scheme.
In fact, the taxation plan set forth in the Constitution levied taxes on the state based on its population relative to the whole. States with more people weren’t expected to pay more. Neither were states with more wealth.
Even percentage across the board. Anything else is political theft.
When I go to the store or enterprise and purchase something, the price does not vary because of how much I earned. It costs something for milk, bread, vegetables, meat, whatever. The price of gasoline is not related to my income.
Taxes ought properly be the same for everyone. The Taxman should not be looking into my private affairs. How much I earn is nobody else’s business.
“You’re paying 2021 taxes this year, so in 1914, you’d pay 2013 taxes.”
But I’m willing to bet the whole set up was not laid out and people were confused with a form that was displayed in 1914 for 1913 earnings that probably weren’t taxed properly anyway. This was brand new to the public and the IRS wasn’t doing themselves any favors by having field agents try to collect the right amount of money on a form that was filled out wrong (lies) and had to have all those forms go through God knows how many in boxes to find out the amount on the form and get the info to the field agents that then have to find the payers. And nobody know no one. We, in 2022, call this a Mongolian. And I’m, not sure they have come any closer to doing right today.
But consider this, the Internal Revenue Service does in fact “audit” itself, and sometimes doesn’t like the results of those audits. And a lot of that is surprising as auditing your own company while representing the public taking their money more than borders on the line of appearance to conflict of interest. (And possible fraud)

This article should open a few eyes of the taxpayers. The writers of the article, Chamberlain Hrdlicka, consist of Chamberlain, Hrdlicka, White, Williams & Aughtry, PC thus are known as Chamberlain Hrdlicka. They are a tax-focused American law firm founded in Houston, Texas with offices in Atlanta, Houston, Philadelphia, and San Antonio and have been in existence since 1965. They are not fly by night. And if they can find them, it sure doesn’t promote a lot of trust in the IRs by anyone that has any knowledge at all.

Form 56 Just Provide notification to the IRS of the creation or termination of a fiduciary relationship. It has nothing to do with stopping paying Taxes yourself.
Exactly. Only a few in a 1000.
Only 55,000 of 330,000,000.
You do bring up a very good point. The only way it can happen is incrementally. And I’m retired now and I noticed that I was able to actually get an additional deduction now just because I’m over 65.
Pretty much the same reason I'm so pissed off all the time. We've both been here for a long time.
Yep. You have me by about a year.
Long enough to see that things are not in fact getting better. That we are doing the same things over and over and not getting the results we were promised.
“Never give up. Never surrender.”
My family made that our motto. It’s on the family crest now.
Non deficere. Numquam dedite.
Galaxy Quest? (evil grin)
Exactly. My ex-wife and I saw it Dec 31st 1999 at the Mall of America in Minnesota. There were even in-door fireworks at Midnight...
:-)
The author has misread the form. The taxes beginning at $20,000 are additional taxes on higher incomes. The standard exemption in the instructions is $3,000 for single people and $4,000 for married. That equates to $87,122 and $116,163, respectively. Additionally, you get to subtract from your income interest and state and local taxes paid and some other items. Tax is 1% on the total net income. If the income was over $20,000, then the additional higher rates come into play.
