Pro-Choice Activists Know that Their Movement is Wrong

I used to be pro-choice. That was before I had an abortion, experienced serious trauma, and then sat in on a veterinary abortion a few years later.

Most abortionists have been taught that the procedure is safe, helpful to women, and that if it’s not legal, women will die in back-alley abortions. Many claim that thousands of lives are saved every year thanks to legal abortion care. In truth, back-alley abortion deaths were rare before Roe v. Wade, and legalizing abortion didn’t prevent Dr. Kermit Gosnell from murdering living babies and endangering the lives of countless women until he was convicted and sentenced to serve three life sentences in prison.

It’s not enough for abortion to be legal in the first trimester any longer. Pro-abortion stances have gotten more and more extreme with each year. The lines are constantly being redrawn as younger and younger women are taught that if they cannot kill a viable baby that would live outside of the womb -- even up until the day it’s born -- that they are somehow oppressed. Anyone who questions this religion of political extremism is considered an enemy. If you’re a woman, you’re a traitor. Worst of all, abortion-celebrating liberals everywhere will scream out the false accusation that, “Pro-lifers only care about babies until they are born!”

I was raised by a liberal mother and indoctrinated by the public education system. I fell for Planned Parenthood’s marketing campaigns. When I got pregnant the summer before my senior year of high school, not only did the father coerce me into having an abortion, all my friends said it was my only option, and my own mother drove me to have the procedure done. I wasn’t raped, I wasn’t molested.

Engaging in rational discourse with some people doesn’t really work, especially with people who brag that they are somehow the only people seeing an issue rationally, but in practice, are seeing it completely emotionally.

Talk about projection.

They just don’t see it that way. They wear it on their back, everybody else can see it but they can’t

Your non-response indicates that your goal isn't about saving babies but advertising groups you support....that's a shame. Her article wasn't an ad, it was about her experience.
Have a lovely day.

Agreed. The article was about the authors experience. Apparently the poster wanted an ad for various groups.

I come to Free Republic because I want to be exposed to issues and discuss issues. You saw my response. Did you think it was insulting, demeaning, or belittled the views of the person who took issue?

I didn’t think it was, and my point was to ensure I understood the views of the person who took issue, which I could understand at face value.

But instead of clarity and civil discourse, I got belligerence and insults.

I am tired of it. And on a lot of these issues, these people should be my allies with differences, not my enemies.

And I see more of it on more issues each and every day. I scarcely bother to go into any Ukraine-Russia threads anymore. You get characterized as a Putin-Bot or a Ukrainian Propaganda Eating Sheep. Very little middle ground, which means there can’t be any useful rational civil discourse on that important issue.

I am often a black and white issue person (because in the end, when we make decisions, we DO boil things down to this or that...a very manichean process...otherwise, we could never choose a side in anything) but to discount the thought process in boiling it down and declaring that you have to have a fully formed opinion at the birth of an issue, well...it is just unrealistic and counterproductive.

If people don’t want to discuss an issue, they shouldn’t engage.

You are upset that she only reiterated her experience. You could always share what group you are with and tell us YOUR experience rather than insult. You're angry someone asked about your opinion and I don't understand that. Blowing out someone else's candle doesn't make your shine brighter.......

Agreed. I seldom come to FR now. People simply want to argue and beat on posters they disagree with.....or dislike to begin with. My daughter stopped posting during Terri Schiavo. I backed off in 2016 at the insults. Sometimes, there’s not much difference between the right and the left when it comes to debating, agree with me or else.

Btw, I also have cataracts....who wants to strain their eyes reading insults? ;-)

I hope your day is blessed.

The pet abortion mere reinforced her previous beliefs, feelings, and experience with her own abortion as a teen.

I highly doubt they would agree with her.

They know it’s wrong because in order to justify murder they insist it’s simply a clump of cells and not a baby. Most of them know exactly what they’re murdering. It’s the Mothers who believe them that don’t know.

The other poster is correct in that the pro-abortion advocates would not agree, and that is not because they are unintelligent, but because they are ideologically blinded by their Leftism.

The fact remains that their hearts know it is wrong, and that internal disparity, which they cannot allow to surface, causes a terrible and destructive cognitive dissonance that is eventually incapacitating.

It is why I often refer to Leftism variously as a mental disorder or a mental illness.

Many conservatives take inconsistent stands on things which, being human, is not unusual. And even though we conservatives do rationalize as well, I don’t believe we do it to the same extent as Leftists do, and especially not on such a consequential subject as infanticide and abortion.

They have their position and the pro-Birth side has theirs and neither the twain shall meet. To say that the pro-abortion side regret their decision is as illogical as they saying that we regret our position.

I originally didn’t like the introduction of the cat being spayed (I love my cats, but to hear people refer to pets as “fur babies” and such is repellent to me) but the more I thought about it...I thought it was a salient point: Too many people look at a fetus as “a clump of cells” and not a living thing.

When she saw the unborn kittens being removed, living, wiggling things with eyes and life, her conscious was unable to maintain the structure of rationale she had built around a human fetus...a structure of rationale that was necessary for her to be deliberately unable to see dispassionately the horror of an abortion.

But the living, struggling kittens burned right through that structure to reveal the reality for her, as did the behavior of the mother cat that knew all too well its kittens were no more...and she made that connection with herself.

I realized I had been too quick to discount it, even initially. It was a powerful thing.

No one said they "regret" their decision. The statement was that the activists know it is wrong. (Pro-Choice Activists Know that Their Movement is Wrong). They know it's not just "a clump of cells" so they lie.

Absolutely. Life is life whether a helpless pet or human child. The author also had empathy for the mother cat who wailed because she knew how she felt.
