I did as well.
I originally didn’t like the introduction of the cat being spayed (I love my cats, but to hear people refer to pets as “fur babies” and such is repellent to me) but the more I thought about it...I thought it was a salient point: Too many people look at a fetus as “a clump of cells” and not a living thing.
When she saw the unborn kittens being removed, living, wiggling things with eyes and life, her conscious was unable to maintain the structure of rationale she had built around a human fetus...a structure of rationale that was necessary for her to be deliberately unable to see dispassionately the horror of an abortion.
But the living, struggling kittens burned right through that structure to reveal the reality for her, as did the behavior of the mother cat that knew all too well its kittens were no more...and she made that connection with herself.
I realized I had been too quick to discount it, even initially. It was a powerful thing.
