The other two of the Class are in other commands and the Turks have closed the Bosporpous to Russia.
Dead orc.
Dead orc.
Dead orc, dead orc, dead orc, dead orc, dead orc.
Note: It is possible that Ukrainians served on the Moskva at some point and knew this info.
Wait, wait! This can’t be!
I was told by the warmongering putinistas that the crew had been evacuated!
I was told that there was just some damage from an explosion, the fire was out, and the boat was traveling under its own power to drydock to get patched up and would re-enter service in maybe a year!
And then when it appears the boat’s engines failed, that it was being towed successfully! The damage was no big deal!
Lesson learned: When a poster puts a pro-russia spin on any incident in this war, answer: “Moskva,” and mentally ignore anything the poster and his allies say thereafter.
All sides in this war are lying. But the russians have more experience and skill at lying, and thus, are just better at it.
All that being said, reports are of a 500+ crew, with but 54 survivors. I hope that is grossly inaccurate and many more of the crew were saved. For those who died:
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen
Makes the case for bringing back up-armored hulls and superstructures, doesn’t it?
Saving fuel with a lightly built ship might save money but it doesn’t save the ship.

This could be a momentous event and that video does it more justice than the LOL memes.
Russia can’t hide or explain this. All their navy will know what really happened.
The idea their behemoth of a flagship rolled over in a storm after a minor accidental fire causing the rest of the fleet to flee tens of miles instead of rendering assistance isn’t going to fly.
Blaming it on an accident simply looks like a ridiculous deflection away from manifest incompetence at the highest levels. It was sunk by Ukrainian missiles, days after Zelenskyy was trending on twitter for holding up stamps with this boat on them AND GRINNING.
It’s the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.
Ukraine practically signposted this attack. Yet Russia and the Putin bots, being so utterly corrupted by years of swallowing any and all own fake news and false flags spat out by the Kremlin machine, didn’t come close to spotting the danger.
Apparently one senior military official in Russia actually had an infarction on hearing the news.
Its quite possible for both reports to be right. It was hit by two missiles. And the resulting fire caused their munitions to cook off.
I had heard that the ship was mostly evacuated before. There may have been a small crew left on board to fight the fire. Who knows. We’ll no doubt hear more as the hours roll on.
Either way, it has forced the ships back. But not far enough back to be out of missile range. The Ukrainians can theoretically do it again if they can do it once.
Meanwhile, it sounds like quite a few families will be getting letters this week. The only question is how many.
I believe the Mockba was trying to deny the Ukies airspace over their western Black Sea coast with its A 300 SAMS. The remaining ships are nowhere near as well equipped and would need to approach more closely to the coast, putting them under the threat of more Ukie missiles. This would give Ukie air an almost free hand in the airspace around Odessa. This makes Russian amphib ops much more difficult if not impossible.
Maybe they evacuated everybody still alive after a fire and detonations severe enough to cripple the ship. Had there been any chance to save it the crew would probably have stayed and tried to keep it afloat. Under the circumstances i wouldn`t be surprised if a large part of the crew had perished. So it may be true that everybody was evacuated AND that only fifty or thereabouts were saved.
Up until now the ships have been able to shell Odessa and Mariupol with impunity.
Its too late to help Mariupol. But this should give Odessa some relief.
It was apparently built in Ukraine, they definitely knew the weaknesses
Will Russian Armies now desert and join the Ukes? Will the rest of the Russian fleet sail into Odessa to surrender? I think not. The war is only in her first year. Lets see what Kiev looks like in 2025.
Ukranians built Moskva, they still have an incomplete sister ship in Mariopol (check for yourself on Goggle maps).
I saw one pic in an article that showed the ship smoking from the starboard side by the forward 130mm gun mount. (treat the rest of this paragraph as reasonable speculation) She may have been struck from ahead. From dead ahead the missle director (TOP DOME) for her SA-N-6 (S-300) would be obstructed by her own superstructure in low level attacks. Her SA-N-4 launchers (mounted aft) would be similarly obstructed. this would leave 2 AK-630 mounts as her only defense, and these may be obstructed by her own bow.
The real kicker here is that the Moskva was all the area defence SAM systems afloat in the Black Sea Fleet, so closing the coast is now a real bad idea.
Its got these huge antiship missiles in rows along the sides.
I doubt their canisters are substantially armored.
Not so stunning during a heavy storm that probably effed up their radar. I doubt the Ukrops could have successfully sunk a Russian ship in a normal situation.
“No matter the cause, it isn’t good for the Russkies.”
indeed ... not a good case for russian navy prowess whether they blowed themselves up or a uke missile did ...
