Macron said he “would be careful” using such language “because these two peoples [Russians and Ukrainians] are brothers” during a Wednesday interview with public broadcaster France 2...“I want to continue to try, as much as I can, to stop this war and rebuild peace. I am not sure that an escalation of rhetoric serves that cause,” he added.

French President Emmanuel Macron declined to describe Russian actions in Ukraine as a “genocide” a day after President Joe Biden used the term for the first time.

Frenchie is right. It’s silly to talk about this conflict as “genocide.” If the Russians think that the Ukrainians are wayward Russians who’ve treacherously sold out to the West (which is what they do think), then it’s a civil war. Hard to comprehend how they could be committing “genocide” against themselves.

Russians think that anyone who believes the Ukrainian nation exists is evil and must meet a brutal end.

They believe there is no significant resistance to that because those thinking of themselves as Ukrainians have been fooled by the evil West and will snap out of it.

This reminds me of another thing that happened in Russia.

In 1917 Lenin wrote in his book “State and Revolution” that the communist state needs only minimal repressive apparatus because almost everybody will love it. Just get the tiny needed repression over with swift maximum brutality and then there will be 1000 generations of bliss.

Those who know history know that it didn’t go exactly the way Lenin imagined.

Biden’s policies are driven by his emotions. Very dangerous.

History demonstrates 500+ years of acrimony.

Biden’s policies are driven by his desperate need to save Biden. He is involved in the Ukrainian shenanigans up to his squinty little eyeballs, and he and Hunter have been bought and sold by that corrupt little country numerous times. Ukraine was considered the most corrupt country in Europe, back when we cared about such things.

He thinks that inflammatory rhetoric will somehow distract from his ineptitude and corruption.

We have our own bureaucratic oligarchy and our own state capitalism here now.

Ukraine is a proxy war between two competing variants of socialism.

Agree completely. What happens to a national leader who is called a war criminal who has committed genocide? The very best he can hope for is life in prison. More likely is the same hangman’s noose Saddam Hussein got.

So after being called a genocidal war criminal, what possible incentive does Putin have to de-escalate? Doesn’t he have a bigger incentive to insure he doesn’t lose? Say, by using tactical nukes?

Our President, intentionally or not, may have given Putin motivation to win or bring on a cataclysm.

Macron has already claimed to be following facts and refusing to follow Biden’s lead in condemning the ethnic cleansing Putin’s been carrying out. That will be enough to increase his edge in the election.
