I’m glad we have a “safe space” here at Free Republic, to speak freely about this. Sad to say, certain types of people, such as ghetto blacks, tend to have short fuses, and poor impulse control. In other places, we would be condemned as racist for saying something like that.

It’s the black culture. They have pretty much no control over their impulses and they have been given a free pass for it. that is it any surprise this happens so regularly? It all goes back to their culture.

Attacks on officials at kids games are not uncommon. I started calling baseball when I was 12 calling in minors little league on the nights I was playing in the majors later.
But today’s outlook on officiating is being strung out with opportunities and costs.
With the wages at other businesses being artificially raised to jump above entry level and more available than the officiating positions, less people are turning toward officiating as a second job let alone a profession. The average age of 17,000 officials responding to the National Association of Sports Officials (NASO) Survey in 2017 was 52 years old. Of the 6562 baseball officials surveyed, the average age was 54. There’s more money and less travel at McDonalds’.
A for instance is that many little league umpires are paid nothing but maybe a coke from the snack bar. So you get what you pay for.
In some associations, an umpire officiating a 13 and up game might earn $50-65 per game; a 12U and down game will bring in less if they are paid; and a one-hour coach-pitch game will earn $25-30 per game, again if they are paid. So, consider that an umpire officiating three 13U games at $50 per game on Saturday in 90-degree heat and two games on Sunday in drizzling rain will earn $250 for 10 hours of his time on the field, excluding wait time between games, and travel time to the ballpark. With gas at over $5 a gallon, and maybe having to go 100 miles round trip, the wages got eaten on the highway. And they were there all day and probably the next. Drive home, hotel, or sleep in car?
In the mean time that irate parent literally follows complaining at you all the way there from the field gate to get out. And they have probably bought a book from someone that is older than Alley Oop and obviously has no field by laws or league restrictions and are trying to apply a rule from it that doesn’t pertain to the call made some where in the third inning.
Not all leagues play by the exact same rules and not all fields are the same. For instance, in softball if a foul tip with two strikes hits the catcher’s mitt and is trapped to the chest as it bounces off the chest of the catcher it is a foul ball and not a third strike. That’s in ASA, USSSA, and NSA.
If you ever want to get an education in a sport. buy both books: the rule book and the case book. The rule book will tell you the rules and the case book will tell you about weird plays and how to call them. And I have had some of them actually happen.
Try to tell a parent they don’t understand the rules and you get yelled at because somewhere at some time they played the game...or something like it. And they try to apply major league baseball to little league and the rules are not the same.
Did you know in the MLB a first baseman can pull his foot off the bag on a throw to first and it is acceptable to the umpire to call an out if the throw was on line and was going to be, in his/her estimation a put out on the batter runner?
Did you know in NRSA flag football you can throw as many passes behind the line of scrimmage to anyone you want, forward or backward until one hits the ground and kills the play or the scrimmage line is crossed? I can come up with a whole lot more calls you would not know unless you are an official and have seen them. (Or read the case book)
Ya gotta love the game to stay in it and keep your health. Without it you are toast.
And the worst is soccer. More officials are hurt or killed in that sport than any of the others. An example?

Mwalimu John Chang’aa aka Okwoyo succumbed to injuries sustained when a group of players and fans attacked the officials at half time in Kisii County, Kenya. He died from the injuries.
A referee in Argentina was shot and killed by a player he ejected from a game according to published report. Soccer hooligans in the country were blamed for 257 officials deaths between 1924 and 2011, The New York Times reported.
Officials are attacked and/or killed on a regular basis in every country. And they have to buy their own insurance. How much do you love the game? Enough to officiate it.

Kinda. The problem is that these mothers get way too involved. When my son played soccer for a middle school in California, we had mothers who spent all their time screaming at their sons from the bleachers and then actually…I could barely believe this…screamed at them as they came out of the game. My son was a goalie and he did as well as he could, he was usually okay, but even if he hadn’t been, I wouldn’t have cared. It’s a game.
People need to remember that organized sports are all just games….we’re not doing lethal Iroquois or even Timuqua/Guale (Southern coastal Indians) war games which were essentially lacrosse with stones and left many young men dead - and were forbidden by the Spanish Franciscan missionaries. This is just losing a game, and people take it way too seriously.

Umps and refs have no accountability. After every game, they should be placed in one of those carnival dunk-tanks, where the losing fans get to throw big mushy tomatoes at them.
