Ron DeSantis: Price of Goods Going Up ‘Significantly More’ than 8.5 Percent in Biden’s America

Inflation in the United States, which is at a 40-year high, is the “absolute consequence” of bad federal policies, and the prices of goods are going up “significantly more” than 8.5 percent, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said during a Tuesday press conference.

“I think it’s important to point out that we had the worst inflation report that this country has had in 40 years in March, it keeps going up every month,” DeSantis said.

“You know, you go back last year, they said inflation wasn’t a worry even though a lot of us were saying that this was gonna be a problem when you’re printing trillions and trillions of dollars,” he continued, adding that the “idea that you can just do that infinitum without there being any consequences was completely foolhardy.”

Milton Friedman won the Nobel Prize for proving that the ONLY thing that always causes inflation is increasing the money supply.

Inflation goes up until the money supply balances against the “new” worth of goods.

Example: The entire economy is 10mpieces of candy, and there are 10 dollars in circulation. The price of a piece of candy will settle at $1.

Now dump another $10 into the same economy. In a little while, the price of a piece of candy will settle at $2.

Yes, it is really that simple.

Yes, it really is that simple. The best short article (only seems long) I have read to explain inflation in this country is found at the link below. I found it especially interesting, because I picked up an MBA in Finance to start my civilian career after the Navy.

Inflation in the United States

https://imprimis.hillsdale.edu/inflation-united-states/

The consumer price index (CPI) is jerked around over time by opinions about what people buy for their households. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP)deflator is less about opinion and more closely related to measures of what is produced. The GDP deflator measures the change in the annual domestic production due to changes in price rates in the economy. Hence, it measures the change in nominal GDP and real GDP during a particular year calculated by dividing the nominal GDP with the real GDP and multiplying the resultant with 100.

I always thought it was a better measure of inflation for the part of income earned from endowments that could be spent by the college where I was the VP for Business Affairs. The rate currently listed is a closer to 8.5%.

I think De Santis is well positioned to take over from Trump if Trump decides not to run.

He’s right.
Food prices have increased much more than 8.5%.
Someone in Biden’s Administration is cooking the books.

EVERYONE IN BIDEN’S ADMINISTRATION IS COOKING THE BOOKS!

As I shop, I figure most items have gone up 25%-40%.

Any other REAL LIFE estimates out there?

Food and energy prices are not computed in the CPI as they were in the past. Makes no sense to me.

I bought a new car less than 2 years ago.

My back-of-the-envelope calc says that a new replacement with the same features would be about 25% more (perhaps a good bit more, but it's difficult to tell without getting a quote from a dealer.)

That said, the same car is not in stock. It hasn't been for a long time.

Ah, the new and enlightened life in Norte Venezuela.

How about the prices of firearms and ammo? ...if one can even find them.

Eggs exactly doubled overnight. That’s a wee bit bigger than 8.5%.

If Desantis has a good choice for someoen to replace him as governor, someone who can win, I’d rather see Desantis go against Rubio for Rubis’s Senate seat, this year, and then he can run for POTUS in 2028.

well that is a stupid thing to do. He is governor of a successful and growing state. The CEO. Why would he want to be just another senator? It ain’t a step up

His podium would be more national and I think he’d do a better job than Rubio. If Trump or another GOPer wins in 2024, DeSantis would be supporting them in the Senate, and again likely better than Rubio. As I said, my premise was an “if” - IF DeSantis had a good GOP replacement that could win in the general election.
