Biden’s solution to the politics of rising crime: Focus on guns

With big cities seeing spikes in crime and Republicans making it an election year issue, President Joe Biden on Monday sought to recast guns — specifically, untraceable ones — as a root cause of the problem.

Speaking from the Rose Garden, Biden held up a so-called ghost gun kit, displaying what law enforcement and lawmakers have labeled as the new weapon of choice for criminals because of its lack of a serial number and its ability to be purchased without buyers undergoing a background check.

It was an effort to put some political muscle behind a finalized ghost gun rule that has been praised by advocates and law enforcement alike. More broadly, it was an attempt by Biden to regain his footing on a political front that is currently bedeviling him and Democrats. Only 38 percent of voters approve of the president’s handling of crime, according to a new ABC-Ipsos poll.

“Democrats are on the defensive on violent crime, but they have a built-in trust advantage on gun violence prevention policies,” said Peter Ambler, executive director for the gun safety group Giffords.

... snip....

But Democrats and gun safety advocates see a renewed focus on gun control as a potential midterm boon, arguing that it is antiquated to believe that the topic riles up conservatives and not Democrats or independents too. Key to cracking down on gun violence, they say, is an ATF director who supports enforcing and expanding background checks. They’ve also called on Biden to introduce more executive actions on gun control and to name a gun violence prevention czar to oversee the administration’s response to the epidemic.

Several observations:

Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro, who also attended the White House announcement, said Philadelphia had seen a nearly 500 percent increase in recovered ghost guns in the past two years.

What they DON'T tell you is that they have lumped firearms with defaced serial numbers into the category 'ghost guns', artifically inflating this non-issue by conflating it with felonious defacings of serial numbers.

Second, what the White House (and the mumbling dementia patient) put out directly conflicts with the actual text put out by the ATF yesterday. The Obama administration claims:

First, the final rule ensures that firearms with split receivers are subject to regulations requiring serial numbers and background checks when purchased from a licensed dealer, manufacturer or importer. Decades ago, ATF issued a regulation defining the “frame or receiver” of a firearm as the part that is regulated by the Gun Control Act – meaning that is the part that triggers federal serialization, background check, and other requirements. At that time, many firearms in the United States were single-framed firearms, like revolvers, that house key components in a single structure. However, we have seen the increasing popularity of firearms using split or multi-part receivers that house key components in multiple structures. Some courts have recently interpreted decades-old regulatory text in a way that, if broadly applied, could mean that as many as 90 percent of firearms in the United States today would not have a frame or receiver subject to federal regulation. The final rule updates the regulatory definitions of “frame” and “receiver” to ensure that firearms using split or multi-part receivers continue to be covered by our common-sense gun laws.
But the ATF Ruling summary states:
Definition of “Frame or Receiver”
  • Addresses technological advancements and judicial developments since the regulatory definitions were originally set forth in 1968 and 1971.
  • Identifies only one part of a firearm to be the “frame” or “receiver” that requires a serial number. It is the part that provides housing or a structure for one specific, primary fire control component of weapons that expel a projectile; or one specific, primary internal sound reduction component of firearm mufflers or silencers.
  • Definition of a “frame or receiver” includes a partially complete, disassembled, or nonfunctional frame or receiver that has reached a stage in manufacture where it may quickly and easily (“readily”) be made to function as a “frame or receiver” and expressly excludes a block of metal, liquid polymers and other raw materials or a frame or receiver that has been destroyed.
  • Grandfathers in existing classifications of frames or receivers (to include split frames or receivers) and allows them to be marked in accordance with the existing requirements.
  • Partially complete, disassembled, or nonfunctional frames or receivers, including parts kits, that ATF did not classify as “frames or receivers” prior to the rule will not be grandfathered in under the final rule and will need to be re-evaluated.
  • Licensed manufacturers or importers are required to abide by the new marking requirements only for new firearm designs.
These two missives directly conflict with one another. Obama/Biden claims they will force all split-frame firearms (like AR-15s with an upper and a lower reciever) to be considered recievers and require serial numbers, but the ATF specifically mentions that ONLY ONE part can be considered a reciever.

And, in the article, some morons believe that gun control is a winning issue for them in the midterms.

Well, provided you don't cheat your way to victory:

Take a close look at my commentary. Something you should know in there; namely that the White House is directly contradicting what the ATF rulemaking is.

BTW, the ATF CANNOT LEGALLY change the definition of a reciever. Yet, they did.

It’s the oldest play in the book: Create a crisis, then enact the suppression of citizens rights as a way to ‘address’ the ‘crisis’.

It could have also gone from 2 ghost guns to 10, a 500% increase.

They’ve already covered that one.

Cop killer bullets in a high capacity clip loading a ghost gun.

Some scary sh*t.

How many who were shot in Chicago in the last 10 years would have been saved by the idiot Biden’s new gun policy?

NOT A ONE!

Criminals are not going to learn how to machine an 80% lower. Nor are they going to learn how to use a 3D printer.

“Democrats and gun safety advocates see a renewed focus on gun control as a potential midterm boon”

Ok, let’s see the winning strategy for the Democrats this fall:

1. We are going to take away your firearms
2. We are going to take away you gas-powered car
3. We are going to raise the price of food
4. We are going to cut your kid’s private parts off
5. We are going to inject you with experimental substances
6. We are going to censor your speech
7. We are going to raise your power bill
8. We are going to label you a domestic terrorist if you object

Any other winning ideas??

Ghost guns are just another nebulous term from Democrats, sort of like 'woman'. It's so confusing that the newest Supreme doesn't know what a woman is. They change terminology is so they can define anything to be what they want so they can do what they want.

Just about all firearms start with a hunk of metal. So do a lot of other things made of metal. 80% lower receiver kits are a hunk of metal that has been partially (80%) finished into one component of a rifle or pistol. It is not functional. It does not fit other weapon components. It does not shoot itself, or more importantly cannot be shot by a man. The Biden Administration is absurdly making the point that a hunk of metal kills. It is the same old propaganda repackaged. They will not reduce gun crime until they realize that people kill, not guns and certainly not a hunk of metal that doesn't even have a trigger.

The eff'n hood rats and cartels that commit gun crimes certainly do not have the skills, the time or desire to smith an 80% lower into a functioning weapon. But they are the ones regularly committing murder. People kill.

Common criminals will not. But gangs and cartels have already been caught with metalworking equipment that they use to manufacture firearms. Before 9/11, you could buy a fully automatic AK-47 in Pakistan for $50 because there is so much metal machining over there.

The primary purpose here is to distract and give the communists talking points when the crime issue comes up in campaigns.

The second purpose is to psychologically equate firearms with crime.

These new rules will probably not stand judicial review.

Is it worthwhile to buy an 80% lower? Is it too late to buy one?
