RICHLAND, Pennsylvania — Jackie Kulback has a very detailed list of criteria that the county party she chairs, the Cambria County Republican Committee, requires to endorse candidates in next month's U.S. Senate primary contest.
“There are some basic things," she said, "such as, have they ever been to Cambria County and talked to the voters? Do their values line up with our values? Which is very important because we are a very pro-life county. Can they raise money? Can they do the job? And finally, can they actually get elected in a general election?”
Kulback, who has worked tirelessly over the past seven years to register new voters and make Republicans a local majority in this working-class western Pennsylvania county, never put much stock in the endorsement of former President Donald Trump as a deciding factor.
Kulback says that is not a rap on the former president, who remains deeply beloved in this county. Many "Trump" signs are still hanging up 18 months after he narrowly lost Pennsylvania to Joe Biden. “It is just that voters here have to vote for what is best for us and our state, and we have to make the decisions based on that,” she said.
It is a sentiment that was shared by voters and party chairs across the state hours after Trump unexpectedly endorsed Mehmet Oz, the celebrity heart surgeon better known as Dr. Oz, in the race here for the Republican Senate nomination.
It was a decision that left many dedicated Trump supporters perplexed. Why did he choose someone who had not resonated with conservatives in such a key state on the Senate map? Who whispered in his ear that this was a good idea?

He’s easily flattered and he seems to take advice from others without vetting it. His hiring record as president was atrocious. And endorsing a senator….well, it takes six years to fix that mistake.
Examining an issue/phenomenon when you’re working for a corporation (ABC) doesn’t mean you are advocating for it. Get out of here with your clickbait bullcrap, gramps.
Oz is more than a mistake. He is sold out to evil.

So perhaps he was letting the little head do the thinking.
I also remember a post here on FR in the last few days from a Pennsylvania FReeper with some credibility to weigh in on state politics. He said he would not dismiss Oz out of hand simply because he believes any GOP contender in the races for governor or U.S. Senator who comes out of the PA state government (and this would be most of them) would be an absolute disaster as a candidate in the general election.
What?? In other words, put him in the Senate for 6 freaking years, over someone with real conservative credentials, then after he turns into another Collins, we can replace him in 2028?
Democrats never ever gut their own in public. They are smarter than the self-righteous, hysterical, pearl clutching idiot Republicans who will cut off their nose to spite their face at the drop of a hat.
A real blue wave seems to be building in PA. We don’t need Oz to win this year.
Do you want liberals to have the seat instead by walking up the middle?
The Republican label, by itself, means nothing.
Mitt Romney proves that.
Ask him to define what a woman is. Ask him if little kids should be given puberty blockers. That oz guy is a camel riding worm.
A liberal is not going to win in PA this year. Nominating a liberal in a wave election year is pathetic.

my only issue his is constant poor personnel choices(most of them had to get by Mitch, I am aware) and He’s endorsed a lot of asshole establishments that stabbed him in the back.
Just a bad move.
