Fentanyl overdose is now the leading cause of death for US adults ages 18 to 45, according to numbers from the CDC.
Official overdose numbers for 2020 were 40% higher than the previous year. Fentanyl was to blame for 73% of those overdoses. In 2021, preliminary data indicates fentanyl was involved in 77% of overdose deaths.
That 77% is a dramatic increase from the 31% of fentanyl-involved overdose deaths in 2016. The percentage has increased every year since, up to 53% in 2017, 56% in 2018 and 61% in 2019.

Fentanyl is supposed to be a prescription drug, but I don’t know what form it is reaching people. I suppose they don’t eaither.

How are people ingesting it? Is it only with drugs like heroin or is it in other things?
I went through some serious surgery few years ago.
Apparently, unbeknown to me, I was given fentanyl as a painkiller in the hospital. I found it from the final bill, I got some time later.
I guess, it was small dose, since I have never got any dependency or complication.
Since all I got was IV, then, I guess, it was part of the IV painkiller cocktail.
Looking for heaven in all the wrong places.
I would suspect that they may not be owned by the drug cartels but are probably the biggest investors and beneficiaries of them.

you nailed it... the precursors are coming from China and Chinese chemists are employed by the cartel to learn the trade of producing fentanyl. 3 billion (BILLION) fentanyl pills alone are made in Culican on an annualized basis. That’s one town... there are more than 200 fentanyl labs operating in Mexico at any given time. Most comes to the USA, some to Canada. This is a Chinese long game to totally destabilize our society.
We have a failed narco state on our border that is in cahoots with China... yet, nobody does anything. We should be using the US military to whack the cartels by whatever means necessary.

I watched a NatGeo show about the illicit fentenyl trade from Mexico to the US. The Mexican cartels relied on smuggling the precursor chemicals from China. The goal of the cartels is to domestically source those precursors.
Disturbing how the drugs get more potent but that does make sense because addicts need a bigger hit. Marijuana has gotten much more potential too. During my lifetime, went from heroin and cocaine to crack then meth and oxy to now fentanyl.
