WASHINGTON (AP) — Tearfully embracing a history-making American moment, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson said Friday her confirmation as the first Black woman to the Supreme Court showed the progress of America, declaring, ″We’ve made it — all of us.”
Jackson delivered emotional remarks on the sunny White House South Lawn a day after the Senate approved her nomination, saying, it was a moment the entire country could be proud of.
“We have come a long way toward perfecting our union,” she said. “In my family, it took just one generation to go from segregation to the Supreme Court of the United States.”
President Joe Biden, who made his own history by nominating her, stood by her side for Friday’s event, celebrating her confirmation as “a moment of real change in American history.” On her other side: Vice President Kamala Harris, the first Black woman to attain her high office.
“It has taken 232 years and 115 prior appointments for a Black woman to be selected to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States,” Jackson said. “But we’ve made it. We’ve made it, all of us.”
Jackson, at times speaking through tears as she thanked her family and mentors for their support, promised to follow in Breyer’s footsteps on the bench.
“I have done my level best to stay in my lane and to reach a result that is consistent with my understanding of the law,” she said, “And with the obligation to rule independently, without fear or favor.”

Will Smith Too?
Is the author a biologist?
I’m not sure most blacks will be proud of her when they figure out she’s a Groomer supporter
Say what now?
1st Justice of the Supreme Court that rejects the basis of the country, inalienable rights.
Yay
Good God.
How craven.
As if we didn’t have a woman for 35 years, and a black for 50?
Mindless blather...
It used to be that qualifications were required.
Now it’s best if you don’t have them.
If Democrats were insects, you’d use the fly swatter and
leave the wasps alone.
Yeah, well...it took a lot of years for Toyota to break in to NASCAR...but they didn’t win their first race.
That VP isn’t even black. Fake black. Just like Obama but worse.
Is she seriesly doing a, “Victory lap???”
I don’t remember Justice Clarence Thomas doing this.
Kamala gets most of her color from her Indian mother.
Her Jamaican father is almost as white as I am.
Because she was born with two foreign nationalities she is not a natural born citizen and that is why Obama wanted her on the ticket.
Something I’m sure you already know about a lot of black folks.....their race Trumps everything....and I mean EVERYTHING. at least a lot of ‘em I’ve lived, worked and gone to school around.
I guess the days of being the best candidate are firmly a thing of the past.
I heard this taped quote on the radio and she emphasized "my" before "understanding."
Telling, I'm afraid.
“Well we’re movin’ on up...”
Final nail in America’s coffin.
Clarence Thomas has too much dignity for that nonsense.
For Dems, the only qualifications necessary are on your skin or between your legs....................
You should be outraged, you weren’t selected for your jurisprudence or intellect, you were nominated because of your skin color.
Skin color made it. Content of character, not so much.
