I think they don’t really “screening”.
It seems like they are trying to use the tactics from WW2, just throw masses of cannon fodder at the enemy and they will run out of bullets eventually?
Easiest way to lose a war is to fight the last war. France found that out the hard way in 1940.
Badly led, it seems. I’ve known several Russians and they were some pretty bright people; but if the army is half as corrupt as many reports say it’s doubtful if they have leadership worthy of the name.
Having spent so much time there, the info from the link reminded me of some very heartbreaking conversations with a number of Russian families over the years.
We had *Unregistered Russian pastor’s (as their evangelical and protestant churches were officially not allowed to exist), who had been raped and nearly killed, doing their required time in the RUS Army.

As my personal friend Captain Obvious has noted on many occasions, "Training can be more important than hardware." The US spends much more money, time & effort on military training than most foreign countries. Purely hypothetical, but if you put a bunch of American tankers in T64s, with time allowed for standard US training, and sent them up against an equal number of M1 Abrams tanks with Russian crews (and standard Russian training), the results might be interesting. (Or is that essentially what happens at Ft. Irwin? ;>)
Anyone know if any Israeli units equipped with captured Soviet equipment ever faced Arab forces with M48s or M60s? Might not be the best comparison, though, because even the Jordanians may have spent more on training their armored forces than the Ruskies...
