Ukrainian activists claim to have identified the so-called “Butcher of Bucha,” a decorated Russian commander leading the unit that massacred hundreds of civilians in what is being widely condemned as genocide.
Lt. Col. Azatbek Omurbekov, thought to be around 40, was first identified by InformNapalm, a Ukrainian volunteer group that monitors Russia’s military and special services.
It shared his home address as well as email and telephone number, calling him the “military villain” behind the massacre in Bucha, the suburb of Kyiv where bodies have been left strewn in the street or thrown into mass graves.
The group IDed Omurbekov as leading the 64th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, which the war-torn nation’s Ministry of Defense also blamed online for “committing war crimes” in Bucha.
The decorated military leader was blessed by an Orthodox priest in November, ahead of his deployment to Ukraine, according to the Times of London, which noted his “Butcher of Bucha” nickname...
Omurbekov was previously also awarded a medal for outstanding service in 2014 by Dmitry Bulgakov, the deputy Russian defense minister, the UK paper said.

How could humans kill old, young, women, children and babies so soullessly? Looking at the picture of the unit, it’s fairly apparent to me at least how it could happen.
That group of soldiers looks to be composed of central or eastern Asiatics. They’d have less in common with the Ukrainians than European Russians, and likely less compassion for them.
There’s plenty of precedent for bringing in distant troops for dirty work. The Chinese did it in Tianneman Square.
Chechens would be used for similar reasons.

Ömürbek is a Kyrgyzstani first name, and “-ov” is a Russian genitive plural ending often found in Russian last names (sort of like “Johnson” in this country), so his family is probably originally from Kyrgyzstan or thereabouts.

They don’t look like ethnic Russians. They’re clearly from the wild eastern areas of Russia. Remember, many of the reported WWII atrocities of Russian troops were perpetrated by units drawn from the far reaches of the USSR, Mongolians in particular had a reputation for thuggery.

They did it openly in WW2.
The Russians burned everything in their retreat from the Germans. The Germans rounded up anyone who even dared to question them and shot them. Shot the first ones in a ditch and then made the next ones lay down on top of the dead ones and then shot them. Not just Jews, but everyone.
When the Germans retreated, the Russians, and yes Ukrainians, rounded up people and shot them. Then burned what was left of many villages. In Poland they rounded up Polish and shot them, even after the Poles welcomed them for their liberation.
The Ukrainians were some of the worst abusers..on both sides.
These Russian and Ukrainian bastards are barbarians.
It was only since the fall of the Soviet Union that the region had started to come into the civilized world.
