As to Azov NEO nazis, To say that the Azov group is representative of Ukraine’s overall defense or government is false, because it makes up a small percentage of Ukraine’s total military defense, and Ukraine’s national government system is a democracy.

Azov membership was estimated to be anywhere from 900 to 2,500 prior to the Russian invasion of 2022, while the Ukrainian standing military in total was composed of about 200,000 troops.

Did the Azov battalion exist before Russia annexed Crimea in 2014? NO, something that seems that everyone forgets

In contrast, the Pamyat party or the “Russian National Unity” party who’s combined membership is probably larger than the Azov battalion.

Before the Georgian-Ossetian conflict roughly two-thirds of the population of South Ossetia was Ossetian and 25–30% was Georgian. The Ossetians are a distinct, Indo-european group, distinct from the Karvetlian Georgians. The Ossetians had moved there in the 13th century after the majority Ossetian (or Alani as they were known then) Christians were slaughtered by Timur-E-Lang (Tamerlane).

Ditto for Abkhazia - they are Adyge/Circassian people distinct from the Georgians - and they had lived in Abkhazia before Georgians moved there.

I think Georgia - or Sakartvelo as they call themselves, is better off without those distinct ethnic minorities

That brings us to Crimea -- in 2014 I was ambivalent about Crimea breaking away from Ukraine - as the majority - well over 60% of the people if not 75% of the population before 2014 wanted to be part of Russia. Note - I was ambivalent at best, I'm not ashamed to admit that

However the Donetsk and Luhansk cases were different - the majority didn't want to join Russia. Yes, the super-majority spoke Russian as a first language, but these still didn't want to be part of Russia - heck even Zelenskyy is a native Russian speaker.

the Russian invasion of Donetsk brought out opposition -- Putin overstepped.

I really think that if he had just played his standard waiting game, Putin would have got what he wanted

• Zelenskyy had a 30% popularity before the invasion - he would have been voted out
• NATO - especially France, Italy and to some extent Germany did not want to accept Ukraine IF Ukraine applied
• Ditto for the EU
• Germany was filling Russia's coffers with money for oil and gas
• If Putin hung on for some time, he would have had a favorable government and NATO disbanded
