Biden administration finalizes new stringent fuel economy rules

WASHINGTON, April 1 (Reuters) - President Joe Biden's administration on Friday unveiled tougher fuel economy standards for vehicles reversing his predecessor Donald Trump's rollback of U.S. regulations aimed at improving gas mileage and cutting tailpipe pollution.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is announcing it will boost fuel efficiency requirements by 8% for both the 2024 and 2025 model years and 10% in 2026. That's slightly more aggressive than the agency's proposal outlined in August.

The new rules are expected to reduce consumer fuel costs by $192 billion for new vehicles sold by 2030. The administration is eager to make the case that regulatory rules will prod automakers into building more efficient and save consumers money at a time of near record gas prices.

The rules will be challenging for automakers to meet, which will need to spend billions to make more efficient models.

Under Trump, the government in March 2020 rolled back fuel economy standards that had been set under his predecessor Barack Obama to require only 1.5% annual increases in efficiency through 2026. Obama had required 5% annual increases.

We can reduce consumer fuel costs by getting rid of Biden.

I just saw on some TV news that they are talking about reducing speed limits again.

Knowing Biden & Co, they will probably exempt EVs.

Everybody enjoy you 50 mpg Yugo, 55 mph freeway limits, and $10 gas.

Bastards.

And when some of us mention the dreaded work secession, there are people on here that go ballistic.

I doubt this next election will go well since pig face bidet has managed to bring enough illegal voters into this country cross our southern border.

But hey..we got honest to goodness “republicans” like Romney to defend us right? Here is a fact. Way before states vote SOBs like him out, it will be late. Lindseed Graham is another prime example...and there are a lot of those.

Our only hope is Trump. We better get busy............

Is Trump perfect? Heck no, but he bats better the .50. He wins more than he loses.

Improving gas mileage and cutting tailpipe pollution.

Many companies in many countries increasing hydrogen production it’s taking over the utopian electric car game they just pass a test with a air liner last month.
Sell the Tesla while it still has value.

I wonder what the standard is going to be for class five through eight trucks.
This will cause a lot of in place in consumer good pricing/food will go up through the roof or trucking companies to be able to meet any of these new standards

I now own a 48 Chevy 3600 pickup, a 1957 Bel Air and a 1967 Camaro. No smog needed. No computer chips. Infinitely upgradeable. Most parts easy to find, and those that aren’t (mostly the pickup) I’m swapping out. All will have disk brakes by summer, 400 horsepower engines.

I can see the future, and it is unaffordable cars.

That’s nice but how much will these rules increase the cost of a new vehicle?

There is not a lot of cargo space in the new Biden mobiles, but there is plenty of head room.
