On March 31, the Russian President signed the decree stipulating acceptance of payments for gas in rubles.
If gas buyers from unfriendly states refuse to pay for gas in rubles, Russia will view it as breach of contract, President Vladimir Putin said at the meeting on the situation in the aviation sector.
"If such [ruble] payments are not made, we will consider this to be the buyers’ failure to perform commitments with all ensuing implications," Putin said.

Someone may need to tell this guy:

Joe Biden said the ruble had turned to rubble.
————-
The Ruble is now back to trading at it’s pre-war level….very short lived, and now will start rising due to brain dead Biden’s dollar killing sanctions.
…and Vlad says….Checkmate.
I believe they all specify the payment terms and typically it will say USD or EUR.
—————
Checkmate, if they pay in Rubles, the demand for Rubles rises. If Vlad takes USD , he replenishes his foreign reserve currency stash that the Western bankers stole with sanctions.Win win for Vlad.
The question is if Russia gets paid in Euros can they be exchanged into other forms of currency? If they cannot due to sanctions then the money is useless. I’m asking, not telling.
You want his resource, go take it. Europe expects them to stick to the contract while strategically not putting sanctions on that one specific commodity. If they felt they didn’t need it they would feel completely justified in sanctioning it and far too many would be ok with that. The “international finance system” won’t be the same after this conflict. That would be my guess.
huh?
Who's laughing now, Ol' Piano-key Teeth, you pantz-shizzing moron?
Perhaps a stupid question, but can ‘unfriendly countries’ pay in Euros or dollars? Isn’t Russia cut off from the SWIFT system? I guess could deliver pallets of cash, but then Russian airspace is closed.
Russiaphobia didn’t start with Ukraine - it’s been ongoing for every Demorat every since Hillary ran for President.

He was a Hunter Biden laptop denier in October 2020.
I think you should be looking in the mirror when you ask that question.
I suspect Putin DID, and he may have had a say in writing them.
I believe they all specify the payment terms and typically it will say USD or EUR.
Don't care what you "believe", what do you know for a fact?
So he is trying to change the terms.
Maybe yes, maybe no, what is certain is it will get into court to be determined.
Which he is welcome to do upon contract expiration.
And may have done when the LAST contract expired.
Paying in roubles will be a very great deal cheaper than buying at market.
Not a stupid question, more like the most important one.
I can't answer because I can't see the future, but the fallout from this will affect the stability of the entire world economic system and all commodity trade worldwide.
You can be sure the Russians have read ALL the contracts, and not one single FReeper has read one.
Sanctions will work..err wont work..which is it pig face bidet?
WAIT! I get it! You enforced those sanctions upon US.
Stupid worthless braying jackass.
Rubles are 81 to the Dollar right now.
“Darn that Putin, how dare he enforce contracts, it’s so dastardly Capitalistic. Who does he think he is?
Did the original contract stipulate that payments had to be made only in rubles? No, it stipulated that euros are the accepted remuneration.
Yes, you get it.
“So where in the contract does it say the west can seize Russian assets?”
Where does it say it can’t?
I see you have read the entirety of the contract(s).
Please post them so we all may read them.
PDF would be just fine.
Nice try..Democrats colluded with Putin against Trump as we all know now. And of course not one former Soviet bloc country will stand with Russia. Try again tomorrow lol.
