An eighth Russian colonel has been killed in Ukraine in another devastating blow to Vladimir Putin's faltering invasion which has seen the loss of many high-ranking officers.
Kyiv said it had 'eliminated' Colonel Denis Kurilo, commander of the 200th separate motorised rifle brigade, who led Russia's bloody assault in Kharkiv where he was killed in battle.
The brigade had suffered massive losses in the fierce fighting, the Ukrainian army's press office said.
A picture of Kurilo was shared with a red X through it to announce his death.
Two battalion groups in the 200th brigade were destroyed, with a staggering loss of 1,500 servicemen, Ukraine has claimed.
The colonel is the latest in a long line of slain Russian military leaders, which experts say betray the Kremlin's blundering tactics in the brutal invasion.
It has also been revealed today that Lieutenant Colonel Dmitry Dormidontov was killed last week as his funeral was held in Russia today.
A source in the Tatarstan region of Russia said: 'Commander of the rocket artillery division, Lt-Col Dmitry Pavlovich Dormidontov, died while on duty,' said an account.

My mistake. Was sending it to a Putinista.
That is a valid point. Part of the lesson of this whole mess is the remarkable weakness of Russia, which is the result of its incompetent governance and corruption. The Eastern European countries alone probably could easily beat Russia in its present state, much less the whole of NATO (plus Sweden and Finland, who are itching to join). The US is not needed, not even for nuclear MAD.

Why do they send their high ranking officers to the front of the fighting? Do they have no autonomy for their lower officers to carry out the directives?
So, one wonders, will the next, the second Putin ordered assault be made by the first team that was not committed to the battle or to the second team that is all that is remaining?
It will be made by rebuilt units consisting largely of raw recruits using forty year old equipment pulled from the rusty reserve parks - those that can still be made to run.

First off, there was NO had plans to invade those two regions, just assumptions. Second, if that were the case, tell me how preparing to liberate occupied territory in Ukraine poses a threat to Russia’s territorial integrity.
There is NO justification for Putin invading Ukraine…none.
Nothing Zelensky supposedly (no proof of it) planned for Donbas affected Russia’s territorial integrity.
