Ukrainian troops in Mariupol are taking ammunition off of Russian troops and smuggling in weapons to resupply and hold out against the Russian assault.
Western officials in a briefing to reporters Tuesday said there is evidence of Ukrainian troops in Mariupol smuggling weapons into encircled areas for reinforcement as additional Russian troops close in.
"Ukrainian forces, though remarkably adept at smuggling weapons into areas which are encircled, they are also largely being able to resupply their fighters by taking weapons, ammunition, off Russian soldiers in the city itself," Western officials told reporters in a briefing.

The main liberating force is DNR militia. Many of them are Mariupol residents who fled in the period of 2014-2018. One thing many do not understand is that the city was among the centers of rebellion in 2014, which was drowned in blood by the Ukrainian military. Hence the high Azov presence. There are definitely snipers sitting in the buildings but it is not the same as active warfare.

Tovarishch, you just confirmed you are a Russian troll. DNR is the RUSSIAN abbreviation for Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). DNR; Russian: Донецкая Народная Республика, tr. Donetskaya Narodnaya Respublika.
Based on the proposal Ukraine gave today I’d say they aren’t winning anything. If I had to guess I think Russia will reject that offer (which seems to give them most of what they asked for). Russia doesn’t want to get bogged down and may have learned the lessons of occupation from the U.S.

If Russia counters (which is the same as rejecting the offer made),then Ukraine should just say, “You have rejected our offer; as such, there is now no offer on the table. Do you wish to try this again?”

That was actually one of the (legitimate) reasons for Putin’s show of force, which only escalated because of the taunts of Biden and Zelensky. 14,000 people in the Donbas (most of them Russians) have died in Ukrainian attacks since the 2014 coup. And these are UN and other NGO figures, not Russian figures.
The Ukrainians and the mercenaries (Azov brigade) were very fond of rape and horrible methods of execution.
I honestly don’t understand why this has gone so crazy. It should have been worked out diplomatically (because Ukraine had violated the agreements repeatedly), and I think it probably would have been without Biden’s involvement.
Please. Even the Ukrainian government has admitted that they have to “investigate” this.
