Russia has agreed to “fundamentally cut back” military activity around Kyiv and Chernihiv in order to “increase mutual trust” in a step towards a peace deal with Ukraine.
Russia’s deputy defence minister Alexander Fomin says Russia will "radically reduce" military activity outside the two cities, reports have claimed.
Mr Fomin said Moscow has decided to “fundamentally cut back military activity in the direction of Kyiv and Chernihiv” in order to “increase mutual trust for future negotiations to agree and sign a peace deal with Ukraine”, according to Russian news agency Tass.

As for the Kyiv vs Kiev bullshit, everyone raise your hands if you still call the big city in South Vietnam . . . Saigon.
Hand raised.
And most Vietnamese that I know won’t say, Ho Chi Minh city.

The IATA three letter code for Tan Son Nhat, formerly Tan Son Nhut, when I flew in and out of there in the early-mid 1990s, was still SGN.
Russia needs to go home.
Thanks for posting this. Stunning numbers.
Putin Puffers don’t have much to celebrate beyond the murder of women and children that is...
While Ivan is a stupid and brutal bastard the generation that beat back the Nazis have grandkids and great- grandkids who have Smart Phones, computers and things their parents and grandparents would have been shot for even thinking about.
They've have a world and have seen a world other generations of Russians haven't.
Why should any of them wanted to be slaughtered for Putin and his oligarch buddies?
Bad day for the blood thirsty Putin Stooges.
I see Z is now openly talking about Ukraine being allowed to continue as a neutral country. This would mean there’s no more NATO talk and no NATO prospects for Ukraine.
Putin’s getting what he wants by stopping NATO encroachment on his border.
The Russians are beaten. Just trying to put the best face on it but it’s obvious. Day 34 and they still haven’t achieved Day 1 objectives and have suffered tremendous losses in personnel and equipment.
Step towards peace my bleep. They are getting pushed back and suffering heavy losses.
Guess he is not going to get the “demilitarization” and “denazification”
Neocon, your war is over. The corruption of Zelenskyy is done. The Ukraine will never be part of NATO, and in fact NATO has been significantly weakened. It’s time you act like an American. Come celebrate peace with us.
To me it is perfectly clear. First, the forces around Kiev are blocking the Kiev garrison and then they are locking the Western Ukrainian units in Galicia. It makes perfect sense to deescalate because the Ukrainian units can’t move around the country anymore.
More to the point, per some people the Russians have already achieved their primary war aims - securing the resources around the Crimea and the breakaway provinces plus securing the water sources for the Crimea. Everything after that has been optional/gravy.
Naw...the Putin cult is anti Trump.
I don’t think they ever intended to take and hold Kiev, actually.
Here’s the thing - nobody but the Russians know what their Day 1 objectives were. I (and others) don’t think they ever intended to take the entire country.
Deal. Now Putinistas can stare at their Putin posters and dream...lol
Refugee and resupply crises puts a burden on your enemies. We have it in the United States too. Our foreign and domestic enemies filled our cities with non-productive "refugees" who are supported with trillions of taxpayer dollars.
