After careful consideration, we have decided to reinstate our SAT/ACT requirement for future admissions cycles. Our research shows standardized tests help us better assess the academic preparedness of all applicants.

"Our research can’t explain why these tests are so predictive of academic preparedness for MIT, but we believe it is likely related to the centrality of mathematics."
All those geniuses can't admit that it's the math, stupid - you either get it or you don't - and Asians and Whites score better than other groups.
It’s hard to educate stupid people, especially if it’s a stem education.
“Our research can’t explain”
IT’S MIT!!!
Some sanity for a change. MIT doing this should give political cover to other schools to do the same thing.

And, actually, they are being kind by rejecting unqualified candidates. Otherwise, someone is getting in over their heads and racking up a lot of student debt (which is probably going to be paid by the taxpayer eventually).
You mean the application essay topic “Explain the crisis in your life that caused you to go Woke, and write about how you have acted to improve social and climate justice for the world,” is not predictive of advanced engineering talent.
It is impossible to educate someone who says, “Ain’t 9 bigger than 10 ‘cause dems ones and da zero be less than 9?”
That’s racist.
What an embarrassment! This is MIT for heaven’s sake!
Women and minorities hardest hit!
While MIT is trying to explain it, maybe they can also explain why math is not racist, as well as explain to KBJ what a woman is.
> MIT then twist itself into knots to explain why these tests are so important to its admissions policy. <
MIT is trying to do the right thing here. I’ll give them that. But they’ve got to be careful. When you are walking through a woke minefield, one false step and you’re permanently cancelled.
MIT’s suffers from gubmint insider envy because of the school up the street - Harvard. MIT want it’s no-account graduates to have the same opportunity to get staff jobs and subsequent high level political appointments in government, jobs for which their only qualification is an A+ in swallowing wholesale and parroting back the political positions of their professors.
After careful consideration, and the terrible academic performances of students admitted under the previous policy and after careful consultation with our donors, we need to go back to the old way of admission standards.
Calc 1 ...mostly men, a few women. Whites and Asia/India mostly, one or two blacks.
With each successive level, to partial Differential Equations, the number of blacks went to zero, and the number of women approached zero.
It is that way in every STEM, program.
It’s the Peter Principle in action. There were days as a graduate student where I simply had wondered if I had made the right choice. I toughed it out and graduated but it wasn’t easy. Which is the point... If it was easy, everyone would do it.
diffy-Q was painful….
Now that the BLM rioters have quieted down, the cowards are crawling out of their bunkers and tenuously returning things to pre-Flloyd normality.

Yep. Seen it with my own lying eyes when going for my BSME waaay back in the day. Tough courses, but I stuck it out and wasn’t afraid to seek some additional assistance in trying to understand it.
No Test Schools should just offer a non academic social empty nest degree and see how the social student contributes to the community.
I’m wondering if their donors had anything to do with this.
Admitting unqualified blacks into a very high-level STEM school could not have been a good thing for their rating and ranking.
With testing eliminated and admissions opened to those who would have NEVER been admitted w/o SAT/ACT testing, MIT would have become one more middling school.
What would the alums have to brag about then? Graduating from MIT is no small feat, watching it go to hell...I would have cut off my donation on the spot.
