An examination of forced-reset triggers shows they enable the weapon to fire a second round without having to release the trigger, which, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, subjects them to more restrictions under the National Firearms Act and the Gun Control Act.
Guns that use forced-reset triggers are subject to GCA prohibitions regarding the possession, transfer, and transport of machine guns and NFA restrictions on registration, transfer, taxation, and possession. Anyone who violates the GCA's and NFA's rules can be fined up to $250,000 and sentenced to up to 10 years in prison, the letter states.
The ATF encouraged anyone with a gun using a forced-reset trigger to contact the agency on how to divest possession of their firearm. Gun owners should also contact their local ATF field office if they are unsure whether their firearm is a machine gun as defined by the GCA and NFA.
The gun rights organization Gun Owners of America leaked the ATF's letter in late January and said it was "disappointed but not surprised to see the ATF preparing to confiscate triggers."

In the ruling, they specifically mention that Binary triggers remain legal. It is the Forced Reset triggers that they are enacting a ban on.

Indeed. I remember some of members of the gun community getting annoyed with me when I’d point that out on other forums and comments sections. At the time I was merely trying to point out that this was going to happen. What really galled me was that Donald Trump would later claim that he protected the 2nd Amendment during either a rally or the State of The Union. There are things I liked the about the man, but on gun rights he deserves to be publicly excoriated until the end of time.
And if memory serves me correctly today marks the three year anniversary of it going into effect. 3/29/19.

Forced-Reset Triggers are NOT Binary Triggers. They are two completely different trigger systems.

Does this mean the "Once a machine gum...." interpretation condemns any AR it was installed in. I guess in theory that if you turn in a trigger that they could kick in your door, kill your dog and confiscate any ARs you possess.

I suspect there will be a forced limit on the rate of fire of semi autos.
Where that leaves a guy like Jerry Meckleck who can shoot a revolver faster than a machine gun I don’t know.
But you are right. If you make a properly functioning device that rapidly increases the rate of fire, you will get ATF attention.
