War shakes Europe path to energy independence, climate goals

BERLIN (AP) — Before Russia’s war in Ukraine, Europe’s most pressing energy policy goal was reducing carbon emissions that cause climate change.

Now, officials are fixated on rapidly reducing the continent’s reliance on Russian oil and natural gas — and that means friction between security and climate goals, at least in the short term.

To wean itself from Russian energy supplies as quickly as possible, Europe will need to burn more coal and build more pipelines and terminals to import fossil fuels from elsewhere.

This dramatic shift comes amid soaring fuel costs for motorists, homeowners and businesses, and as political leaders reassess the geopolitical risks from being so energy-dependent on Russia.

In 2021, the European Union imported roughly 40% of its gas and 25% of its oil from Russia — an economic relationship that officials had thought would prevent hostilities, but is instead financing them.

While some are calling for an immediate boycott of all Russian oil and gas, the EU plans to reduce Russian gas imports by two-thirds by the end of this year, and to eliminate them altogether before 2030.

This “will not be easy,” said Paolo Gentiloni, the EU’s top economic official. But, he added, “it can be done.”

This is stupid. Burning Russian oil and gas produces carbon emissions.

Cutter already told Europe to pound sand as far as LNG is concerned (they’re not increasing output), so now the only source for that flow will be the United States, which has signed up to provide a decent amount of LNG to Europe.

The problem for the US, of course, is that we’re no longer allowed to increase production, so here comes huge price increases.

For those old enough to remember the 1970s, this is an EXACT RERUN of when we sold the Soviets a huge amount of wheat, only to see our own bread costs skyrocket.

When the first sentence makes no sense, I don’t usually expect the rest of the article to improve.

No problem. We will just go solar. Oh wait, Lithium prices are skyrocketing because of increased demand.

Well there is always.... oh, damn, nuclear is evil.

The title isn’t the truth - destroying oil production asBiden and Europe are doing is all the reason they need to push for their clean energy agenda.

--- "War shakes Europe path to energy independence, climate goals"

Europe as a whole is over 700 million people, and the EU's "members" are about 450 million of them. Russia has a population of about 145 million and Ukraine about 45 million.

Energy independence? Not through the green politics of Europe, and no amount of "offset" in enlightened Europe will offset China's and India's 2.8 billion alone, as well as African countries reaching for industrialization and energy for themselves. The sheer folly of this is as astounding as the West having played "monkey-see-monkey-do" based on Communists in China's "lockdown" pretense, and eviscerated their own economies for the sake of a mortality rate less than 0.28.

You are wholly correct to write, "Global warming activists and politicians who support de-industrialization have blood on their hands." They do. And intend to kill yet more. For profit.

Look up the clinical behavior characteristics of a sociopath, and you will quickly understand who/what is “leading” this nation and the rest of the world. These types are adept at hiding their true selves until they gain some power and authority, then it’s what we see today. The great “reset” should be ferreting out these individuals wherever they are and insuring they never again rise to any position of authority.

Hope they are stocking up on blankets, not sure what they’re going to do for energy production and heat next winter.

--- "...clinical behavior characteristics of a sociopath...." Yes, indeed.

"Consistent behavior patterns in sociopaths include:

"Lack of empathy for others

"Impulsive behavior

"Attempting to control others with threats or aggression

"Using intelligence, charm, or charisma to manipulate others

"Not learning from mistakes or punishment

'Lying for personal gain

"Showing a tendency to physical violence and fights

"Generally superficial relationships

"Sometimes, stealing or committing other crimes

"Threatening suicide to manipulate without intention to act

"Sometimes, abusing drugs or alcohol

'Trouble with responsibilities such as a job, paying bills, etc."

Most from this WebMD list seem to describe national party leaders, especially the Democrats.

No problem just live like people did 300 years ago because solar cells and wind mills can never keep up with the demand and no way of making certain items with out oil utopia the land of rainbows and unicorn don’t exist.
For their next agenda is to learn to do without comrade.

"Global warming activists and politicians who support de-industrialization have blood on their hands."

Some announce their goal is to reduce world population to 500,000,000 (requiring killing off over seven hundred billion). I wasn't raised religious, but I can recognize diabolical evil.

Europe has a secret plan to meet both their “climate change” and energy goals.

Unicorn excrement!

(In other words, they are going to lie lie lie and lie some more.)
