How Ukraine’s Outgunned Air Force Is Fighting Back Against Russian Jets
New York Times ^ | March 22, 2022, 5:00 a.m. ET | Maria Varenikova and Andrew E. Kramer

When he shoots down a Russian jet, “I am happy that this plane will no longer bomb my peaceful towns. And as we see in practice, that is exactly what Russian jets do.”

“I had situations when I was approaching a Russian plane to a close enough distance to target and fire,” he said. “I could already detect it but was waiting for my missile to lock on while at the same time from the ground they tell me that a missile was fired at me already.”

He said he maneuvered his jet through a series of extreme banks, dives and climbs in order to exhaust the fuel supplies of the missiles coming after him. “The time I have to save myself depends on how far away the missile was fired at me and what kind of missile,” he said.

Still, he said in an interview on a clear, sunny day, “I can still feel a huge rush of adrenaline in my body because every flight is a fight.”

Andriy graduated from the Kharkiv Air Force School after deciding to become a pilot as a teenager. “Neither me nor my friends ever thought we would have to face a real war,” he said. “But that’s not how it turned out.”

Andriy has moved his wife to a safer part of Ukraine, but she has not left the country, he said. She spends her days weaving homemade camouflage nets for the Ukrainian army. He never tells family members when he is going on duty, he said, calling only after returning from a night flight.

“I only have to use my skills to win,” said Andriy. “My skills are better than the Russians. But on the other hand, many of my friends, and even those more experienced than me, are already dead.”

Biden has remunerated his Russian paymaster, Putin, many times over by denying Poland's clapped-out MiG-29's to Ukraine. While Biden makes grand-sounding pronouncements about the defense of freedom and democracy for the media, he slow-walks US aid to Ukraine.

Biden's shtick, which combines reassuring talk and passive aggressive sabotage, is a winner among the uninformed public. Biden is in Putin’s pocket*, although in a plausibly deniable way. His problem is that both parties are pretty solidly in Ukraine’s camp. And there is plenty of material available to impeach, remove *and* imprison Biden. I doubt Biden will act precipitously to aid his Russian patron. He will throw obstacles in the path of the aid where feasible and perhaps, in so doing, doom Ukraine to defeat.

Joe Biden has the affect of a very good used car salesperson, which he presumably acquired at the feet of his car salesman dad. He makes you feel comfortable, like a member of his fambly, to the point that it almost feels like you’re imposing on him by asking for a discount off the list price. Heck - you want to pay above list, just to show him how much you appreciate the service he provides. Then you drive away from the showroom with the cream puff you just acquired, and the dashboard lights up like a Christmas tree, then goes completely dark, as the car rolls to a gradual stop.

* One of the unheralded aspects of the Ukrainian scene is the way large numbers of Ukrainian oligarchs are owned by Putin. For instance, Burisma, a corporation that looms large in the Biden scandals, is owned by a Ukrainian businessman with indirect ties to Moscow.

It's possible Biden is slow-walking aid to Ukraine because he’s afraid that Putin will blow up his administration. Not with explosives, but by carefully laying out how he used cut-outs to bribe Hunter Biden, and by extension, Joe, in a way that no amount of denial by the media can scrub away.

Some people say Ukraine has its hooks into Biden. That’s absurd on its face. Saying that Biden is tied to Ukraine is like saying the Anwar Awlaki, US citizen anchor baby and the Yemeni terrorist, is tied to the US. The relationship is completely incidental. Biden’s real relationship is to Russia - Burisma’s owner is a pro-Moscow oligarch tied indirectly to Putin.

Yanukovich ran to Moscow because he was Putin’s man. Who was Yanukovich’s man, who left Ukraine when Yanukovich scuttled away to his master in Russia? Zlochevsky, who *co-incidentally* owned Burisma, the outfit that bribed Biden through Hunter.

Zlochevsky served as Ecology and Natural Resources Minister during most of the first cabinet of Mykola Azarov,[1] and during both the later part of Azarov’s first government and all of Azarov’s second government, he served as deputy secretary on National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych.[1]

The bottom line? Countries don’t pay bribes. People do. If I had to guess who really bribed Biden, I’d say Putin, through a couple of intermediaries - Zlochevsky who was beholden to Yanukovich who was beholden to Putin. It’s really not that complicated, and makes for plausible deniability.

Why hasn’t the media made the connection? For the same reason it’s completely uninterested in Hunter Biden’s laptop.

For 30 years they’ve been saying that the era of the dogfight is over. All engagements now are “over the horizon” so dogfight tactics (and capabilities) are obsolete.

All these years later the one group that seems hardest to convince of that fact ... is the fighter pilots.

So far we’ve had Zelenksy as Churchill. I guess it was time to resurrect the probably non existent Ukrainian airforce turn it into a RAF vs Luftwaffe Battle of Britian parable

Yes.

Trump furnished Ukraine with javelins and US trainers. biteme (his string pullers) stopped it.

According to dumbass milley, Ukraine was supposed to lose in 3 days. Accordingly biteme figured? they wouldn’t be a problem.

Thus he was able to suck up to putin to facilitate the surrender of the USA to the iran mullahs.

He also needs pootie to assist with his “climate change” agenda.

Unfortunately for biteme the Ukes decided they didn’t want to be pooties slaves so they fought back. Now due to public opinion which is 70+% pro Ukrainian, biteme has to throw them some scraps so he can look like he cares. Also he called pootie some bad things.

Bottom line: pootie stooge biteme only gives the Ukes the minimum he can get away with to avoid pissing off the real big guy.

The fact that Putin’s military hasn’t got air superiority even after 32 days tells you how pathetic they are.

On paper Putin’s airforce should have stomped Ukraine’s airforce in a week at best.

All Putin has done is kill thousands of Russian boys and impoverished millions of Russians.

The RAF had near parity with the luftwaffe in comparison.

Ukrainians were flying 30 year old, badly maintained planes. And they still are.

Putin’s airforce should have had air superiority in a week if they really were as good as theory.

But they aren’t

I havent considered it from that angle, I just see Ukraine as a politicians fencing and racketeering Pawn Shop.

BIden was in there wheeler dealin' under the color of The Obama Doctrine, AKA the IMF/Globalist agenda to keep the dollar strong for G7 but weak for anyone else (like Russia china or india) who might become an economic threat if traded with fairly so they stack the deck and pull off these "color revolutions" that look eerily similar to the "protests" in USA, torch parades, tearing down staues, using facebook and MSM to get the word out to the useful idiots, and all that.

So what happened to Russia’s planes? I assume the Russians are so incompetent that they can’t find all the Ukrianians’ jets and shoot them down.

I think air supremacy is obvious. As for superiority, the enemy is not Iraq. Of course they have more advanced mobile SAMs.

That’s the name of the game for all the leftards. They don’t want WW III, and they don’t want to help Ukraine, either. They just play supporters on TV because the Ukes have surprised everyone with their feistiness (sorry, I mean toxic masculinity). They’re disappointed that Kiev is not a crater in the ground.

“White supremacists” in a country of only white people? See how racist they are. Their refugees don’t even go around raping women or attacking Jooos! Phooey./s

[they stack the deck and pull off these “color revolutions” that look eerily similar to the “protests” in USA, torch parades, tearing down staues, using facebook and MSM to get the word out to the useful idiots, and all that.]

Some people here, who correctly think that the Democratic claim that “Putin’s Facebook ads elected Trump” is utterly ridiculous, totally buy into the idea that “Vicky Nuland’s pastries overthrew the legitimately elected government of Ukraine”. Either both of these statements are true (you never know what might have tipped the balance) or neither is true (maybe they made some small marginal difference but deeply rooted domestic political movements cannot be conjured up into existence by an outsider with a few ads or cookies). Accepting these as true is based in the inability to see the opposition as legitimate – such evil people CAN’T possibly represent the TRUE sentiments of the public – if they appear to do so, it is only thru trickery AND upon projection – they know that they achieved their own legitimacy thru similar trickery so they assume that the other side must do the same.

If it really is possible to astroturf a Color Revolution, then Putin was a really weak ass guy who was not capable of outbribing the CIA right in his own back yard. But that’s not true – as we found out in Afghanistan, if the people you are bribing have no real domestic base, you might as well light the money on fire for all the lasting impact it’s going to have. Not only did Putin not learn this lesson in 2014, he STILL hasn’t learned it because when his troops got to Ukraine in February, none of the people he had supposedly “bought” were anywhere to be found.

You want to know whether Zelensky is popularly elected? The population of Ukraine rising up to resist the Russian invader despite being outgunned big time - that’s your evidence that Zelensky is the people’s choice.

But there are other considerations. Stalin wasn’t the people’s choice. We backed him because the alternative was Germany ruling Russia *and* the rest of Europe. Similarly, it’s not important who rules Ukraine - as long as it’s not Russia, just as we did not care who ruled Kuwait, as long as it wasn’t Iraq.
