Three French nuclear missile submarines have been deployed at sea simultaneously for the first time in three decades as a response to Russian nuclear sabre-rattling.
Two of France’s four Triomphant-class ballistic missile submarines have left their base at Ile Longue, south of Brest, bolstering the single vessel that is normally on permanent patrol under the Atlantic, according to the Telegramme, the newspaper of the Breton port.
The last time three were deployed at once was in the decade before the end of the Cold War during a US-Soviet standoff over medium-range missiles in Europe.

The sub I was on was a NATO boat covering NATO targets. We never knew what were the targets. I was a enlisted peon. That was in the 70’s. We were after Russia (Cold War) ya know. God only knows what the NATO targets are now. If we have to take a nuke, I hope it’s up DC’s azz.

I had heard that most targets (2/3’s) were in Western Europe, intended to stop a Soviet advance.

This guy repeats a lot but this is a huge mess and like most messes that are huge it is hard to grasp just how bad it will become all at once.

This war is a colossal mistake made by fools and by intention of others. Europe should just hang plugs instead of welcoming him then hang him for the birds to finish off along with putin. All of this is unnecessary like so many things but it is and we will all suffer greatly. Brace for a major recession as well. Mid terms will not matter one whit. The repooblicrats have no plan, no guts, no energy, no tools, no will. Without Trump they are castrated and they fight him every step he tries to take.
I think it is likely we are entering the 60s and 70s again for the rest of our lives, I’m in my late 60s now. The stock market was all but flat as a board in those years. Those were not good or booming times, we just lived without fanfare and from the looks of things we will be glad to have that.
The hole in energy supplies is going to be massive. Even with a start to fill it right now and without all the green insistence it would take years to make progress against the loss of russia on the world stage. They will cripple pretty quickly without investment. Green junk will not suffice, it will not come quickly enough or reliably as we know.
Food is a secondary outcome, it relies on energy in some form or another. Loss of a crop in Ukraine and a feeble crop elsewhere owing to a shortage of affordable fertilizer will kick start the famine.
The root of all of civilization at this point is energy and water. Everything else is the result of these two.
This is not the great reset, it is an inflection point, the end of the fourth turning. It has actually come now and the last 20 years were merely a prelude to it.
We have all said much the same thing I know. There is not thing one we can do about it. I can see families consolidating in the not too distant future to reduce resource needs and that will be one of the milder adjustments to life as we know it now.
The writing is on the wall. Numerous press warnings about Russia releasing WMD in Ukraine, any day now. And Biden created a team, tiger team, to come up with how the US should respond.
But the UK press is already threatening NATO involvement over it.
It’s coming. Russia won’t have done it, but they will use it to bring NATO down on Russia. And Putin will go nuclear imo.
Putin is a lot of things but WMD is not his style.
I hope we survive. I just signed up to be a monthly donor, have exciting dig training plans for May but we are stocking food and hoping for a summer at least.
Biden and neocons... I hope they survive and slowly starve in nuclear winter.
Western Europe? I doubt we targeted France, Germany, or Spain. The Soviet Block I can buy. The fire power is awesome 10 plus, carrying 10 each, in my day. If you can get them all off. I hope no one is dumb enough to open Pandora’s box.
I once had a neighbor who was famous in France because he was a WW I historian had a museum, and a big cannon too.
He lamented that no one here in the USA really cared about history.
