It may be that the only way for Russia to be welcomed back into the community of nations as valued trading partner is to dump Putin.
Think post-war Germany or Japan after their dictators were toppled.
Also, what are the post-Ukrainian war ramifications for Russia's military spending? (And the spending of the NATO countries.)
Clearly, Russia's military has been exposed as a paper tiger, with problems with equipment, command and control, logistics, maintenance, and precision strike capabilities. Will Russia go on a new spending spree to modernize and upgrade its military, triggering increased spending by NATO countries and starting a new cold War?
Or will Russia's pathetic performance in Ukraine realize that Russia is already so over-matched in any conventional war with the U.S./NATO that our own military budgets will be slashed?

Nice blog-rant....from “Tyler Rogoway.”
Whoever that is.
This was a horrible decision by Putin based on hubris and bad advice. I feel bad for people on both sides (the young Russian conscripts have not idea what they are doing there).
Given Putin’s history of being careful and calculated it is almost inexplicable that he did this and as the article states there is not real victory now for him or for Russia no matter what happens in the “battle”.
Hey, at least I posted the whole thing, not just an excerpt. So you can't accuse me of blog-pimping.
Pictured: The globohomo TechnoDicktatership straightens out those backwards Russians when they come crawling back to their digital chains.
Pretty sure that the Russians rich and poor have figured out that sociopathic TechnoBullies who can steal your stuff with the flip of a switch are to be avoided at all costs.
A lot of people in the US and Canada didn't learn that particular lesson only a few shorts weeks ago.
Go figure.
It's almost like some group wants Mariopol, a very beautiful coastal city, turned into rubble. Perhaps to build it back better with a new better class of residents? A Baltic Riviera?
I just don't get it as to why basic military defense tactics aren't being carried out when being attacked? It makes no sense unless there is a script for this thing.
Brandon told him he could do it, just to not take the whole country.
Further proof:
Mean Ol' Pootie sticking it to the Euroweenies with the ruble yesterday.
The Russians are NOT coming back to the Digital Slave Circus.
Imagine Russia with military bases and offensive weapons in Cuba (and our response) or imagine Mexico allied with China them having military bases in a break-away republic of California.
Then will start to understand “this horrible decision” by Putin.

Tyler Rogoway is one of the most respected military writers online. His site is top notch for all things military.
when I think of it compared to us going into Afghanistan, the major difference is that Putin didn't announce ahead of time that they were going into war only half-way, to "win over hearts and minds", and such. Putin went to war to takeover, no ifs, ands, or buts about it, and so far it's looking a lot harder than he made it out to be.
I can't stand how we went into Afghanistan. And I can't stand us going into Iraq. But at least one good thing about Iraq is we showed how quickly and powerfully we can "shock and awe" and depose a tiny ruler if we want to. Between Afghanistan and Iraq we showed that the only thing we fail at militarily is trying to force democracy onto a culture that respects only jihad and pedo. Russia, at least from the optics, is struggling at taking over land from a tiny nation.
The Emperor of Japan was allowed to stay, although I don't think that's really equivalent.
What are those squarish things on the top surfaces of the tank?
Ping t o an update on the battles of Ukraine.........but will the conflict now go with Sarin and TActical Nukes?
Active armor. Basically shaped charges that blow outward to break up or vaporize incoming projectiles.
It is a defense against shaped-charge warheads such as RPGs.
Reactive armor. They’re supposed to blow up and outward at charges coming into them, thus preventing the weapon from penetrating the armor, and killing the soft targets inside.
