Putin’s Bombers Could Devastate Ukraine But He’s Holding Back. Here’s Why.
Newsweek ^ | 3/22/22 | William M. Arkin

Posted on 03/23/2022 2:00:06 PM PDT by hardspunned

As destructive as the Ukraine war is, Russia is causing less damage and killing fewer civilians than it could, U.S. intelligence experts say.

Russia's conduct in the brutal war tells a different story than the widely accepted view that Vladimir Putin is intent on demolishing Ukraine and inflicting maximum civilian damage—and it reveals the Russian leader's strategic balancing act. If Russia were more intentionally destructive, the clamoring for U.S. and NATO intervention would be louder. And if Russia were all-in, Putin might find himself with no way out. Instead, his goal is to take enough territory on the ground to have something to negotiate with, while putting the government of Ukraine in a position where they have to negotiate...

Oh no! One of the media conglomerate’s most trusted sources (at least by most on FR) has gone over to Putin stoogery. Next the trusted sources trafficked here might tell us the Russians didn’t run out of gas two weeks ago.

“instead, his goal is to take enough territory on the ground to have something to negotiate with, while putting the government of Ukraine in a position where they have to negotiate...”

I think that’s always been obvious.

It’s barbaric thought.

It seems like Putin thought his troops would be showered with
flowers as they freed up the people of the Ukraine. Is seems
like he also thought the West would have nice warm thoughts
about him executing the rescue.

Hmmm, wrong on both counts.

He’s so unpopular in the West right now, he doesn’t dare
escalate this situation further.

I think he has captured most of the territory he wanted,
but I do lean toward thinking he wants Odessa also.

The big question is, does any of that land along the Black
Sea return to Ukrainian control?

I don’t see that happening. I could be wrong. We’ll see.

In the capital, most observable to the west, Kyiv city authorities say that some 55 buildings have been damaged and that 222 people have died since February 24. It is a city of 2.8 million people.

Yeah. A lot of stupid comments out there about Russia "turning Ukraine cities to dust."

Russia simply doesn't want to rebuild whatever it decides to seize for itself. Moreover, it intends to rule the people in those territories. Also, Russia knows a lot more about Ukraine that we will ever imagine - they have a lot of friends and agents there, particularly in Western Ukraine, and they know who and where to target.

Americans can't seem to grasp it because we are so used to "shock and awe" and all invasions being preceded by lengthy bombing campaigns. Russia is not follow a USA script.

Russia doesn’t want to lose a lot of bombers. They cost way more than their tanks and trucks that have been going kaboom.

NATO needs to tell Putin to cease now or else. Then no warning drop a big bad bomb on The Kremlin to get their attention.

This is how you deal with a bully.

Ukraine is the answer for everything until 2025.

Now, John Durham says his case is DELAYED due to Ukraine - Russia!

If you had a brain, you knew it was coming!

“Special counsel John Durham made the assertion in a filing Tuesday (3/22) asking a judge for a deadline extension for the production of classified discovery in accordance with the Classified Information Procedures Act, a law that establishes procedures for protecting classified information in criminal cases. Durham pinned the need for a DELAY on agency personnel being involved in matters related to Russia’s war in Ukraine.“

“The officials preparing and reviewing the documents at the FBI and intelligence agencies are heavily engaged in matters related to Ukraine. “

Bull crap. It's been 7/24 war porn on all news networks. Every network rolls out deep state establishment types, a vast majority of Congress, DoD and the Biden administration are pimping US involved. Fox News had William Taylor on this afternoon. He's a worthless pile of establishment excrement and everything wrong with the State Dept. It is a steady stream of non-credible tripe. None of this is needed. There is nothing of national interest at stake other than Biden making more boneheaded decisions to destroy the American economy.

There are other reasons to go slow and carefully....

Let me explain one:

Ukrainian losses are not just dead and wounded, it is also those who switch sides.

Per DNR report today, they have 357 former Ukrainian soldiers who did this (subtract 37 who are getting medical help). And of course this is a minor part of the total, and most who surrender want out and not to fight for the other side.

With Russian nuclear missile subs on patrol 24/7, say goodbye to SF, LA, NY, Philly, and Newark if that happens.

Is Russia still paying transit fees to Ukraine on the gas
pipeline? I read that is true.

Rumors are also appearing that Russia may demand payment for its gas in rubles.

Not clear what the list is, but I’d guess Washington, NORAD, and London are on it.

According to a bunch of stupid people on FR, Russia has already lost.

While smart people know they have already won.

It makes sense in that Ukraine and Russia are not black and white. Lots of Russians in Ukraine and vice versa. Why destroy the civilian parts if you want to take it over.

Ever the see the movie Waterworld, where the Kevin Costner character drops a flare into the oil tanker, and some old guy down below yells Thank You Jesus!

That’s how I would feel if Philadelphia were nuked. /spit

Yeah, well, I think you are wrong. Putin has been trying for 20 years to make peace with the EU, the US and Europe. He has been repeatedly rebuffed. The only person willing to talk with him was Trump and he was labeled a traitor.
This war stinks of rotten Deep State cheese.
