Ukraine rejects Russia’s demand to surrender the besieged city of Mariupol.

Ukraine’s deputy prime minister, Iryna Vereshchuk, tells Russia that Ukraine will not surrender the city.

“There can be no talk about surrender and laying down weapons,” she says.

“We have already informed the Russian side about this,” she says.

I think it's fairly obvious. Putin's invasion isn't really about NATO since Ukraine does not meet NATO requirements for admission. Nor is it about the long-standing tension with Western Europe since the EU is very dependent on Russian oil. Simply cutting them off would do far more damage to the EU than invading Ukraine. So what motive then is left for invading Ukraine, aside from grabbing Ukrainian resources and a longing for a return to the USSR's former glory? It's not even clear that the economic gains from taking Ukrainian land are greater than the cost of a sustained occupation.

The Russians can't be trusted at all. Any promise of free passage is worthless, especially for any members of Ukraine's military. The will make the Russians pay for every inch of ground gained.

If you were wondering what "better to die on one's feet than live as a slave on your knees," this is what it looks like sometimes.

“Mariupol is Azov base and homestead....that’s why Putins blasting it to smithereens and why Zelensky won’t surrender it.”

Oh, for God’s sake: It is the largest Ukrainian port on the Sea of Azov. It is a strategic asset for whomever controls it. You have Nazis on the brain.

Okay, they will level your city stupid. Stupidity isn’t bravery.

Like Putin would recognize Ukrainian sovereignty in any event. "Appeasement is feeding a crocodile in the hopes that he will eat you last."- Winston Churchill

The Ukrainians have decided they'd rather die on their feet than on their knees. I respect them for that.

If they give up their city, is it really their city anymore?

......."What right does Russia have to dictate what Ukraine can and can’t do? ".......

Since the US Nuland and McCain under Obama determined they had the right

'to dictate what Ukraine can and can't do'.

Yup. Every Russian killed fighting in Mariupol is no longer free to fight elsewhere. It also appears the Russians have withdrawn some forces from around Nikolayev to support this operation, so the Ukrainians have pushed the Russians back further there moving towards Kherson.

“I think it’s fairly obvious. Putin’s invasion isn’t really about NATO since Ukraine does not meet NATO requirements for admission.”

Then NATO should have been EXPLICIT in saying they will never join. The problem was that NATO was already playing footsie with Ukraine, so anyone watching shouldn’t be surprised that Putin saw the same.

Damn, he’s really bloated. I still think he’s sick which is the main motivation for doing this now. Biden’s weakness made it all the more possible.

“Nonsense. He invaded Ukraine because he knew NATO wouldn’t react.”

How is my comment nonsense? Ukraine is not in NATO, so why would it react?. Putin used as an excuse for invasion that he didn’t want a NATO country on his border. Yet, he has four. How come he didn’t invade those countries before they joined NATO?

Putin’s invasion of Ukraine had nothing to do with NATO.

The US didn't dictate squat to Ukraine. Yanukovych represented the pro-Russian oligarchs from the Donbas, and he lost his internal struggle.

Ukrainians aren't sheep like Russians, they weren't going to suffer Yanukovych yanking them away from the EU.

Probably the part about Victoria Nuland handing out cookies in Kyiv in 2014. Apparently, that was quite traumatizing for some folks. They’ve wished death on Ukraine ever since. They’d happily cheer if Putin nuked Ukraine and it’s 40 million citizens off the face of the earth. Of that I have no doubt.

The invaders are flying the Soviet flag on their vehicles and wearing it on their uniforms. They are not even hiding their intentions.

1824 was the date of the Mexican constitution.

You are correct. Putin is a cold war fossil and still holding a grudge. That wouldn’t really be a big deal except it has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands due to his mania.

“Or it could become a Stalingrad, where the invading force ends up getting smashed.”

Now THAT was a brutal fight.

As I’ve been saying:

The Ukrainian authorities and media are lying to us.

The Russian authorities and media are lying to us.

The US authorities and media are lying to us.

The EU authorities and media are lying to us.

The UK authorities and media are lying to us.

In war, the first casualty is the truth.

Everything you see or read should be viewed through the reality of the above.
