A Chinese diplomat says NATO should stick to what he claimed was a promise not to expand eastward.
In a speech on Saturday, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng criticized the far-reaching Western sanctions imposed on Russia after it invaded Ukraine and said the root cause of the war in Ukraine “lies in the Cold War mentality and power politics.”
Echoing a Kremlin talking point, the Chinese envoy said if NATO’s “enlargement goes further, it would be approaching the ‘outskirts of Moscow’ where a missile could hit the Kremlin within seven or eight minutes.”
“Pushing a major country, especially a nuclear power, to the corner would entail repercussions too dreadful to contemplate,” he said.

Ukraine and those other countries are sovereign nations they have the right do as they please.
And Russia has been robbing, raping and murdering them for centuries.
Come on, man! I keep hearing from folks on FreeRepublic that they know exactly how Putin thinks, and that we should go to war with Russia because there's a 100.0000% chance we win, and 0.0000% chance Pooty uses nukes!
(Of course, when I asked one of those experts where he bought his crystal ball - I could really use one myself, for stock trades - I got no reply... ;>)
They can’t join NATO if NATO doesn’t offer them. That’s the issue.
Ukraine can have our seat in NATO.
Just keep sending us your Chinese hookers. We’ll figure out what to do with them.
But the last expansion was 18 years ago.
Gotta love it...
Our Freeper Liberaltarians are now lining up with China.
Can’t make the chit up.
It was stupid to push for Ukraine to be part of NATO, that’s why Flimsey Grahamnesty and John McCain were for it.
Lithuania is NATO and is mostly about 120 miles from the Russian border but it borders a small Russian territory, Kaliningrad, as does Poland (also NATO).
Kaliningrad has one more little trick, over 70 miles of Baltic sea coastline.
That makes FIVE existing NATO countries in the same region as Ukraine (not NATO), that directly share a border with Russia and Putin attacks Ukraine because of "NATO expansion?"
There is no "expansion of NATO" towards Russia but Russia is damn sure expanding towards NATO.
China's Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng is yelping loud enough that it is clear the sanctions are and will continue to have a significant effect.
If China and Russia want the sanctions lifted then Russia need to get OUT of Ukraine.

China needs to be added to the sanctions list along with the rest of the thieves.
China is not wrong.
Like Cuba in 1963?
Or you have never heard of the Monroe Doctrine
Hope you remember as China makes more buddy in Central and South American......
Mexico would be and excellent friend for them
And that’s exactly why they’re so mad at the Bidenistas. Who’s been doing all the robbing in the last decade or so.
Ukraine is nothing but a cash cow for Biden, Kerry, Pelosi and other US fat cats.
Apart from the western aggression towards Russia, Russia is also highly upset that the US is now making billions off of Ukraine.
The REAL FORIWGN ENEMY.
China knows they cannot take Taiwan if we help Taiwan.
We have more airpower on our Amphibious ships than China has on its lone aircraft carrier. And they are still attempting to master carrier flight deck operations.
Russia invaded Ukraine. Claiming they were ‘pushed’ opens up all kinds of fun poskibilities such as us getting ‘pushed’ into a buffer zone between the US and the Mexico Narco-IllegalColonizer state.
