Despite fears that China may help Russia avoid economic sanctions and may even provide military support to Russian President Vladimir Putin's regime, China's ambassador to Ukraine told officials in the western city of Lviv this week that his country will support Ukraine both economically and politically.
"We will always respect your state, we will develop relations on the basis of equality and mutual benefit. We will respect the path chosen by Ukrainians, because this is the sovereign right of every nation," Fan Xiangong, who relocated with the Chinese embassy from Kyiv to Lviv after Russian forces invaded on Feb. 24, told Lviv officials on Monday, according to the Lviv regional government.
"In this situation, which you have now, we will act responsibly. We have seen how great the unity of the Ukrainian people is, and that means its strength," Fan added.

Lavrov was halfway to Beijing last night when his plane turned around abruptly and returned to Moscow @BILD reports. Unclear if Putin called him back or Chinese side got cold feet @noahbarkin
The Chinese respect strength.
More from the Chinese ambassador:
“China will never attack Ukraine, we will help, in particular in the economic direction. In one year, our country imports goods from around the world worth more than $3 trillion. We are ready to help you develop. In this situation, which you have now, we will act responsibly. We have seen how great the unity of the Ukrainian people is, and that means its strength,” the ambassador said.
China is playing both sides on this.
US and Russia playing against China in the middle too.

Cuba will never attack Tajikistan. This is fatuous. Getting to Ukraine from China would be a Long March indeed.
China respects the territorial integrity of all countries. Taiwan is part of China and the Chinses leadership respects that.
Interesting twist. At least publicly.
Of course, when the Ukrainians apply to China for Serfdom, they will be accepted and each will be issued their own Social Credit Score Account, ... which will bring them right into the Chinese Communist Economy.
My first thought too. Expect large Chinese investments in grain production and fertilizer from natural gas. Welcome to the Belt and Road, Ukraine.
Taiwan sees itself as part of China and that there is the useful fiction of one china
Really? I thought Taiwan considered itself a free county, NOT a part of Communist China.
