WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House is marking Equal Pay Day by taking new steps aimed at ending the gender pay gap for federal workers and contractors.
President Joe Biden on Tuesday is signing an executive order that encourages the government to consider banning federal contractors from seeking information about job applicants’ prior salary history. And a new Labor Department directive is aimed at strengthening federal contractors’ obligations to audit payrolls to help guard against pay disparities based on gender, race or ethnicity.
The Office of Personnel Management also is considering a regulation to address the use of prior salary history in hiring and setting compensation for federal workers.
Equal Pay Day is designed to call attention to how much longer women must work to earn what men earned in the previous year.
Data shows that while the pay gap is at its smallest ever, the coronavirus pandemic has altered women’s labor force participation so that “what we’re seeing is an artificial narrowing,” said Jasmine Tucker, director of research at the National Women’s Law Center.

I would like to see how they came up with this federal “wage gap”.
They are probably just looking at raw numbers. I would bet that they are not normalizing it based on position, skillset and years of service.
The only white male workers left in the federal government are those hired 20+ years ago, so of course their pay is higher than the other groups. These days, unless you have a special skill that they are in need of, only a PoC or other “disadvantaged” group can get a federal job.
If the highly compensated white male federal workers declared themselves as black females would they re-crunch the numbers?

Women tend to work as a 2nd job in the household-—and they have kids to take care of.
They WILL take off time for doctors appointments-—dentist trips—PTA meetings, child care pick up, etc.
Witnessed such for YEARS.
IF you are NOT at your desk 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year, you should NOT be making the same $$$ as a person who is.
Every job I ever had had such gaps from some of the ‘workers’.
ALL of the rest of us had to pick up the slack when they were gone-—even if only 2 hours or so.
Either have a family or HAVE A JOB...
Cannot do both exceptionally well.
Also, men tend to treat the job as a CAREER & they study hard for such. Women do not take the LONG ROAD.
Biden toadies are just pandering to people that don't know anything about federal hiring and prevailing wage requirements for federal workers and contractors..

Absolutely. I’m a GS Physicist, a female geophysicist a few cubes over makes more than I do because she’s been in longer and is at a higher pay step. I make more than another female geophysicist a few cubes down...I’ve been in longer. A secretary should NOT be making what we make since we put in the blood, sweat and tears in our education. GS is one of the fairest systems around, do not mess with it!
