HARRISBURG, Pa. – Wintry weather made travel difficult in parts of the Northeast on Saturday, including in central Pennsylvania, where more than 70 vehicles were involved in a crash along State Route 581.
The crash forced troopers in Cumberland County to shut down the roadway for hours to allow crews to clean up the wreck. Buses were also brought in to transport people involved in crashes to the local fire department.

Drivers should have learned by now that high speeds on slippery roads lead to crashes.
i guess they figured with globull warming, there is no ice.
Not to worry butta-gig is on the job
Prolly more illegals doing what illegals do. Let’s Go Brandon.
70 cars—this could never happen if everyone drove an electric car.
That just proves it right when folks say we Southerners don’t know how to drive on snow and ice.
.
I live in PA, don’t recall many, but I tend to ignore the other side of the State.
Speak for yerself Gertrud. Driving on ice and snow is like riding a bike these dayz.
When I lived in SW PA, we considered that side of the state to be part of New Jersey.
Nasty combination of weather events. Rain, sleet then snow and freezing temperatures.
Electric cars are immune to any hazardous road conditions?
Some seem to be quite prone to having difficulties...

I live near this road.
Pennsylvania highways are undersized for the volume of traffic they handle. From the Maryland border to Lebanon County, I-81 is a deadly road that is loaded with tractor trailers. That entire section (and then I-78 to the NJ border) are loaded with distribution centers, and more being build, which has resulted in an exponential increase in truck traffic.
Despite having the second highest fuel taxes in the nation, Pennsylvania complains that it does not have the money to expand roadways. 97%+ of the budget goes to road maintenance even though Pennsylvania is ranked as having some of the worst road conditions in the country.
The entire thing is a massive gov’t waste with contracts going to politically connected construction companies.
Inferior engineering, design and maintenance keep the roads in hazardous condition. Add massive amounts of truck and car traffic and it is a deadly combination.
We had two to three inches of snow in the Ozarks. Yet these fools drive like it is clear and 70 MPH! Wrecks are all over the place on Interstate 49!
By the way, keep it charging and warm all through the winter, to make sure it works for you:

Driving on ice can be okay, but you need to go quite slow and not make fast or sudden movements. Let up on the accelerator when encountering ice, too.
These people are nuts.
It sounds like you have experience with the conditions, as do I.
Speeds on I80 are often 80 mph and higher. Troopers don’t seem to bat an eye at 80 mph.
