Chernobyl still running on backup generators, Ukrainian staff held captive by Russian troop
Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine was still powered by backup generators Saturday, three days after external power was cut.
Ukrainian workers at the site have been held captive around the clock for two weeks, Ukraine’s nuclear energy regulator Energoatom told the UN’s nuclear watchdog.
“The plant’s staff of 211 technical personnel and guards have still not been able to rotate, in effect living there since the day before Russian forces took control,” the International Atomic Energy Agency said Saturday in a press release. The Russian military seized Chernobyl on Feb. 24.

However, using Russia to stave off election defeat could get out of hand, sucking all of us into a disaster.
But stupid clickbait.
The stored uranium at Chernobyl doesn’t need active cooling.
Send in the ghost of kiev!
In the US type of reactors, I believe they have to be water cooled for ~18 months before going into dry cask storage and since they’ve been shut down for years, I would assume you’re correct.
It is still hot, though not as hot as it used to.
Seen several reports that that is the situation.
“Radiation” is scientific, but also “scary”- so the media does what it can for the money.
MUCH less hot.
Since it’s bad man Putin and not the usurper hussein, we suddenly believe the media now.
Chernobyl nuclear power plant... powered by backup generators
that phrase is surreal
“The stored uranium at Chernobyl doesn’t need active cooling.”
Then why does it need backup generators?
There was an article around Fukushima disaster that said the giant concrete dome is not a permanent solution and further measure should be taken. So electricy should be always available. Now that power supply is cut, they need backup generators.
>>...Chernobyl nuclear power plant... powered by backup generators...that phrase is surreal<<
Not really since the last reactor was shutdown in 2000.
>>...Then why does it need backup generators?...<<
Lights, TVs, radios, etc.
Then I guess it is not a power plant.
Not since 2000.
