The stored uranium at Chernobyl doesn’t need active cooling.
In the US type of reactors, I believe they have to be water cooled for ~18 months before going into dry cask storage and since they’ve been shut down for years, I would assume you’re correct.
It is still hot, though not as hot as it used to.
