Senate Passes $1.5 Trillion Spending Bill That Includes Aid for Ukraine

WASHINGTON—The Senate passed a $1.5 trillion package to fund the federal government for the current fiscal year, after Democrats and Republicans resolved months of wrangling to quickly send aid to Ukraine.

The measure was approved 68-31 and now heads to President Biden’s desk, one day before a temporary funding measure was set to expire and set in motion a partial government shutdown.

The bill provides $13.6 billion in aid for Ukraine, including more than $3 billion for European Command operations mission support, the deployment of personnel to the region and intelligence support. Mr. Biden has said that the U.S. military won’t enter Ukraine, but the U.S. has sent troops, air defense systems and other equipment to Poland and other NATO states on the eastern flank to bolster their defenses. The assistance also includes $4 billion in humanitarian aid, helping refugees fleeing Ukraine and providing emergency food assistance and healthcare.

Passed 68-31. Wouldn't you like to know where this money actually goes? We are only told generalities. In a time where inflation is out of control and the USA is in unprecedented debt......we are spending another 1.5 trillion.?

I’d like to know if there are any RCV provisions in it.

I already know the IRS and FBI have made out like bandits.

So, all the hype of the past 3 weeks was to prepare us for this? What is the love connection between biden and Ukraine? Our involvement in this should have been near-zero.

Yippee! And why do we need to sweep the house and senate exactly. Republicans fully support the Democrats.

“What is the love connection between biden and Ukraine?”

Dude, there is no love for Ukraine. They are supporting a proxy war that will devastate the Ukraine country and cost them tens of thousands of lives.

The love is for the Military Industrial Complex. Every country is raising their defense budget. They are swimming in the blood of the innocent and money.

When was the last time any of these politicians peed in a cup to prove that they are not high on a substance? It’s interesting that horses are required to be drug tested after a derby race but these jackasses could all be higher than a kite while they spend our grand and great grand kids into the poor house...

Did anyone surmise Social Security runs out of money by 2028. In mean time, seniors will be “means” tested to stretch out funds until then. Government workers will just have to keep working longer.

The whole sordid story.

Ukraine Worked With Democrats Against Trump
in 2016 to Stop Putin. The Bet Backfired Badly.
Real Clear Investigations ^

Six years ago, before Russia’s full-scale invasion of their country, the Ukrainians bet that a Hillary Clinton presidency would offer better protection from Russian President Vladimir Putin, even though he had invaded Crimea during the Obama-Biden administration, whose Russian policies Clinton vowed to continue.

Working with both the Obama administration and the Clinton campaign, Ukrainian government officials intervened in the 2016 race to help Clinton and hurt Trump in a sweeping and systematic foreign influence operation that’s been largely ignored by the press. The improper, if not illegal, operation was run chiefly out of the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington, where officials worked hand-in-glove with a Ukrainian-American activist and Clinton campaign operative to attack the Trump campaign. The Obama White House was also deeply involved in an effort to groom their own favored leader in Ukraine and then work with his government to dig up dirt on – and even investigate — their political rival.

Ukrainian and Democratic operatives also huddled with American journalists to spread damaging information on Trump and his advisers – including allegations of illicit Russian-tied payments that, though later proved false, forced the resignation of his campaign manager Paul Manafort. The embassy actually weighed a plan to get Congress to investigate Manafort and Trump and stage hearings in the run-up to the election.

As it worked behind the scenes to undermine Trump, Ukraine also tried to kneecap him publicly. Ukraine’s ambassador took the extraordinary step of attacking Trump in an Op-Ed article published in The Hill, an influential U.S. Capitol newspaper, while other top Ukrainian officials slammed the GOP candidate on social media.

Snip-——long read

You overlooked the reality. When push came to shove, the left folded and accepted the apparent position the Republicans advanced long ago.

The money isd appropriated by Congress to run the government

If you want to know how it is dispersed, look it up

They folded? Give me a break. 1.5 TRILLION !!!

“This funding bill is awash with good news for our country,” said Senate Majority Leader CHUCK SCHUMER (D., N.Y.) “

“The basic bill provides $730 billion in nondefense funding, a $46 billion increase over fiscal 2021, and $782 billion in defense funding, an increase of $42 billion, consistent with a principle both parties have aimed at in recent years of maintaining parity in spending increases for defense and nondefense spending.

It also serves as a vehicle for other policies, giving regulators oversight of synthetic nicotine, the material in e-cigarettes, and reauthorizing the lapsed Violence Against Women Act, which helps victims of domestic violence. It includes $1 billion in funding for a priority of Mr. Biden’s: the creation of a program to fund research and treatments for diseases like cancer and Alzheimer’s, modeled after similar programs at the Energy Department and the Defense Department.”

OK, you made your antispending rant but get this. The number of 1.5 trillion is I believe an old number developed in 2021.

Given the current and coming inflation, it is probably woefully inadequate and there will need to be supplementals
