Good question. In the same vein Why have a legal document that documents a physical true event and product (birth), and allow it to be changed to a perceived or a wish that the event or product is wanted to be?

Years ago on CSI Miami there was a show that couldn’t be made today, where the agents were looking all over for an individual by his DNA; but he or she had transitioned to the other sex, so they couldn’t identify the perp for the first 50 minutes of the show.

At the time, it was just presented matter-of-factly—law enforecement was stumped by a new problem. Today, if such a plot were shown at all, the cops would be shamed and punished and there would be triumphant virtue signalling.
