SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California Gov. Gavin Newsom proposed sending money back to taxpayers to offset record-high gas prices but rejected calls to increase oil drilling, saying he wants to free the state “once and for all from the grasp of petro-dictators.”
Newsom’s proposal would likely come in the form of a tax rebate.
Dee Dee Myers, Newsom’s senior adviser, told reporters the rebate would likely total in the billions of dollars and be limited to people who have a car. People who are living in the country illegally would also be eligible for the rebate, which could occur as soon as this spring.

California has a sales tax on every gasoline purchase in California.
When our state nears $6/gallon of gas, the state is bringing a ton of extra Sales tax $’s each day that weren’t there before the price increases.
Not True! California has annual automatic gasoline tax increases. He only proposed not to implement this year's planned increase.
That is not giving back. That is not taking more.

How is the bozo going to refund taxes for visitors to the state that bought gas? The tax is universal, so the refund should be universal as well.

How much is the Ca Tax / Gallon?
It seems like it would be quickest and easiest to just reduce that tax.
But they won’t do that.
Tax “rebates” should only go to people who actually pay taxes.
