During remarks at the White House Tuesday, President Joe Biden claimed his domestic climate agenda is not contributing to an increase in oil and gas prices for American consumers.
"It’s simply not true that my administration or policies are holding back domestic energy production. That’s simply not true," Bide said. "In the United States, 90 percent of onshore oil production takes place on land that isn’t owned by the federal government. And of the remaining 10 percent that occurs on federal land, the oil and gas industry has millions of acres leased. They have 9,000 permits to drill now. They could be drilling right now, yesterday, last week, last year. They have 9,000 to drill onshore that are already approved. So let me be clear -- let me be clear: They are not using them for production now. That’s their decision. These are the facts. We should be honest about the facts."
"Loosening environmental regulations or pulling back clean energy investment won’t -- let me explain -- won’t -- will not lower energy prices for families. But transforming our economy to run on electric vehicles powered by clean energy with tax credits to help American families winterize their homes and use less energy, that will -- that will help," he continued.
But his claims are easily proved false.
First, Biden's claim oil companies are choosing not to produce on permits already approved onshore in missing context. It isn't that simple and Biden knows it. Shortly after Biden's remarks, Mack Energy Corporation Director of Government Affairs Claire Chase explained on Fox News.

The Wall Street Journal is also debunking this claim.
"Companies have to obtain additional permits for rights of way to access leases and build pipelines to transport fuel. This has become harder under the Biden Administration...companies must build up a sufficient inventory of permits before they can contract rigs because of the regulatory difficulties of operating on federal land," the Editorial Board writes. "It takes 140 days or so for the feds to approve a drilling permit versus two for the state of Texas. The Administration has halted onshore lease sales. Producers are developing leases more slowly since they don’t know when more will be available. Offshore leases were snapped up at a November auction because companies expect it might be the last one."
Second, President Joe Biden shut down the Keystone XL pipeline within hours of taking office on January 20, 2021. He did so after lobbying from climate groups. When completed, the pipeline would have carried 700,000 barrels of oil across the U.S. each day. He also stopped exploration in ANWAR.
Even with the crisis in Ukraine, Biden refuses to unleash American energy by re-opening pipelines he closed, resuming drilling on federal lands, etc.

And third, current regulations being implemented on behalf of climate activists are hindering the oil and gas industry and causing prices to rise. The week Russia invaded Ukraine, the Biden Administration froze new leases. From CNBC:
The Biden administration is delaying decisions on new oil and gas leases and permits after a Louisiana federal judge blocked officials from using higher cost estimates of climate change.
The leasing pause is an unintended result of the Feb. 11 decision by U.S. District Judge James Cain, who sided with a group GOP-led states and argued that the Biden administration’s attempt to raise the real cost of climate change would hike energy costs and hurt state revenues from energy production.
One of the most significant and unintended outcomes of the ruling is the government’s pause on new oil and gas leases and permits to drill on federal lands and waters. Lease sales in states across the U.S. West, including Montana and Wyoming, are now delayed.
Fox News fact checks Joe Biden’s statement that America is producing the most oil it ever has at this moment.
In Dec. 2019 America was producing 12.9M barrels a day. In Dec. 2021 we were producing 11.5M. https://t.co/NYQAOeYxwk pic.twitter.com/e7ChQJSlef— America Rising (@AmericaRising) March 8, 2022
This is a flat-out lie.
Gas prices have increased 48% under Biden—BEFORE RUSSIA INVADED UKRAINE.
Biden did that.
That’s bc Biden:
- killed Keystone pipeline.
- froze federal leases.
- shut down ANWR
All, while Biden waived sanctions on Putin’s pipeline. https://t.co/RiBgpX1n9s— Ted Cruz (@tedcruz) March 8, 2022
Meanwhile the White House, as Biden indicated during his remarks, will continue to pursue a climate agenda that drowns oil and gas companies in regulation with a goal of making the industry extinct. White House officials, Press Secretary Jen Psaki included, continue to claim putting pipelines back online or back into construction would take too long to have an impact on prices now. It may take some time to bolster oil and gas infrastructure, but it will take decades for the U.S. to completely transition to alternative forms of energy. Given how inefficient current alternative energy sources are at keeping things running, it may never happen.

Jo Jo isn’t very good at math or reality.
Joe only knows the ice-cream cones keep coming so everything is GREAT
Do people believe this BS? Maybe Biden’s statement is “talking points” for the brain dead population to pass on to social media and the MSM to regurgitate in the evening news.
My questions:
1. Is it true that we were energy independent under Trump?
2. If true, how did he do it. Figure out what he did and do it again.
And the feckless representatives whine, complain, and stomp. As the world turns. It appears our side of the government limits out at hissy fits.
So he/they are liars.
And they don’t give a F.
Perhaps a more cutting way to question it would be this;
1. Is it true that we were energy independent under Trump?
2. Is it true that we are not energy independent now?
3. What is the difference?
How do we impeach the entire Biden administration and replace it with a pro America administration..... without a rebellion.
Its so hard watching these trash tell their lies and NOT BE CHALLENGED. Ever.
People are lazy and apathetic and will not rock the boat. It’s hard work and besides, people at church will be critical of boat rockers
Obama would like to steal all the guns, but he just can't do it, yet.
RE: So he/they are liars.
There’s one word that comes to my mind: ZEALOTS.
They are Climate Change ZEALOTS who believe that saving the world from environmental armageddon is worth doubling or tripling the price of gasoline.
Listen to their rhetoric.... their belief is that the future will be nothing but pain for mankind. You either suffer the pain on the pump now or total suffering in the near future if you don’t do anything to try to stop it now.
Very good.
They lie so easily; lots of practice.
When he started his installation by insisting that he was legally elected, don’t expect anything truthful after that.
And, this is not an instance like the little boy who cried wolf as a prank, and then actually spotted a wolf. This is more malicious. BeijingBiden has no intention of telling the truth about anything unless it is: just random, to his personal/family benefit.
On the specific point of energy, he is as well informed as the ex-bartender from Brooklyn — another bone head.
Everybody is entitled to their own opinion.
Nobody is entitled to their own reality.................
Prices will necessarily skyrocket.
That what Obama wanted and intended. And the sheeple think that’s just fine. Just please, no mean tweets! Oh, and more ice cream!
I will be in the midst of a few Biden supporters tomorrow evening at a neighborhood small group event. One of them is always very vocal about her support for Democrats and their policies. There’s not one policy she doesn’t approve of. Can’t wait to see her and hear her pipe up. The other 5 are staunch conservatives.
A line has been drawn. Joe screwed up. It wasn't supposed to be so visible....yet.
