Russian Air Force Problems in Ukraine
The Sandboxx ^ | March 7 2022 | Alex Hollings

In an excellent piece of analysis from the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), research fellow Justin Bronk offers a number of insights into Russia’s air superiority struggle. While the article warrants reading, here are some important conclusions from Bronk’s essay:

-Russia’s small stockpile and long resupply timelines for precision-guided munitions have limited their air force’s ability to conduct viable strike missions. As Bronk points out, this isn’t just a problem today, but also means Russian pilots have very limited experience leveraging these types of weapons.

-A lack of targeting pods makes precision strikes difficult, meaning most fixed-wing assets may be waiting for authorization to commence Russia’s more traditional approach of unguided bombardments.

-Russia may be uncertain of its ability to deconflict in a target-saturated environment, as evidenced by Russia’s history of friendly fire incidents.

-Lack of pilot training makes Russian aviators less capable and competent in such a volatile combat environment, meaning they may not be comfortable using some of the most advanced systems at their disposal.

Based on news reports I’ve been seeing, Russia managed to send about 50 planes against Ukraine, and so far, 200 of those planes have been shot down.

Before you get too excited, be ware the frustration may prompt Putin to go nuclear at a much lower threshold.

So the typical Russian character always shines through.

No doubt Vlad's oligarch buddies are the defense ministers and contractors who made the deals, bought the equipment , everybody ripped the system off, incompetent generals who protect their little fiefdoms of graft and privilege, forced conscription delivers shallow, unmotivated recruits. It certainly has exposed The Russian Army to be nothing more than a Potemkin military of poor , uninspired leadership, corruption and a recruit army that was lied to about it's mission.

This one is obvious even to the untrained observer. It's a very strange miscalculation by Putin to commit troops but wary of the optix. Anyone can watch live [warning:Youtube] from Kiev/Lviv/Kharkiv/Odesa, which makes unguided strafe bombing of civilians unpalatable (ie, not even the Chinese want to see that broadcast while they are providing the banking for it). Siege warfare from over 100 years ago. It won't end well. Putin will eventually have one of his manic fits and MOAB Zelensky's location.

Even Putin must understand by now that killing Zelensky will create a martyr that Russia will regret.

That link is stale.

Here is the current channel link to that live broadcaster from Ukraine. It is sporadic, but usually goes live every night. This broadcaster is playing cat & mouse with Youtube and has had several accounts removed.

The Russian Air Force is an Air Show Air Force and sometimes not very good at that

Ironically, Putin’s floundering adventure is showing us that Russia is everything Russian chauvinists say Ukraine is: a corrupt and hollow country.

———-

The idea they couldn’t take out all power should give people pause because its obvious they are securing, not demolishing critical infrastructure They are taking big loses with this strategy, but they aren’t giving this land up after these loses.

The idea western intelligence has any credibility left is something for much more gullible people to digest

When we went toe to toe with them in Syria, it was very ugly for them.

Don’t forget the two troop transports full of Russian paratroops.

China copied Russias aircraft, tanks, and small arms weapons. Their tactics are most likely the same as Russias. You can be sure they are using Yellow Sea tires on non-tracked vehicles. A setup for failure.

Don’t forget, Russia has not deployed their newest generation of fighter jets. Their cream of pilots fly these and with the new shipment of shoulder fired anti aircraft missiles are probably hesitant to use them.

Putin doesn’t want to use those, because the same above factors will show these to be just as ineffective.

And that would doom Russian military sales, which after oil and NG, are there biggest exports.

I believe this poor Russian showing is going to get those who want military equipment to reconsider the “value” that you get from Russia, to just be seen as cheap.

The 10 foot tall Russians are actually pygmys.

But their battle history has them winning battles by intentionally sacrificing thousands of pygmys.
