The fact of the matter is that cars have become more electronically run, including the ICE ones. The 2006 Saturn Ion I had gotten from a Car rental eventually had the engine fail because the internal computer chip controlling the processes for the engine such as fuel injection was failing, I am not sure when the internal electronic engine operations could be remote shutdown but even newer gas cars are electronically run in the engine.
Urban elitism. People who live outside the dense city areas are the exception in the population now. And a small minority does the actual farm business, most of which is corporate and owned.

I remember when they started with computers/electronics in fighter jets - the general consensus among the pilots in my dad’s squadron was that in a malfunction, they would be trying to fly a very large, oddly shaped rock…
