Actor George Takei took to Twitter on Friday to tell Americans that they “can endure higher prices for food and gas” if it means retaliating against Russian President Vladimir Putin. The actor went on to call the raising prices “a patriotic donation.”
“Americans: We can endure higher prices for food and gas if it means putting the screws to Putin. Consider it a patriotic donation in the fight for freedom over tyranny,” Takei wrote.
The actor was quickly slammed in the comment section of his post, with one Twitter user proclaiming, “Unnecessary pain/suffering by the middle class isn’t ‘patriotic’ you dolt.”
“Millionaires don’t speak for working people,” another tweeted.
“Donations are typically voluntary,” another Twitter user pointed out.
“Can you believe this totally out of touch Hollywood elite? Who is this ‘We’ he speaks of?” another commented.
“Wait but we are still buying 10% oil from Russia and the gas price is the highest ever,” another wrote.
Takei’s comments come amid Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, and while American suffer under an ever-increasing inflation.
During his State of the Union address last week, President Joe Biden highlighted numerous new American sanctions on Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine — yet the president has failed to sanction Russia where it hurts, refusing to halt U.S. imports of Russian oil, explained Alfredo Ortiz.
On Friday, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) pointed out that the Biden administration is not sanctioning Russian oil in part because they are relying on Russia to mediate a deal with Iran.

On Tuesday, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland told the Senate that the US is working with Ukraine to protect biological research labs as Russia continues its attacks on the Eastern European nation.
“Ukraine has biological research facilities, which in fact we are now quite concerned Russian troops, Russian forces may be seeking to gain control of, so we are working with the Ukrainians on how they can prevent any of those research materials from falling into the hands of Russian forces should they approach,” Nuland told the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee in a hearing.
The response came in regards to a question from Senator Marco Rubio, who asked: “Does Ukraine have chemical or biological weapons?”
Following Nuland’s response, Rubio continued on to ask whether she would have any doubt that the Russians would be behind any potential biological or chemical attacks.
“I’m sure you’re aware that the Russian propaganda, two groups already putting out there all kinds of information about how they’ve uncovered a plot by the Ukrainians to release biological weapons in the country and with NATO’s coordination. If there’s a biological or chemical weapon incident or or attack inside of Ukraine, is there any doubt in your mind that 100 percent it would be the Russians that would be behind it?” Rubio asked.
“There is no doubt in my mind, Senator, and it is classic Russian technique to blame on the other guy what they’re planning to do themselves,” Nuland responded.
Anyone else think that Nuland, who helped engineer the Ukrainian regime change in 2014, sounds more than a bit nervous here?
