Vice President Kamala Harris and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg were criticized Monday for a “tone-deaf” event focused on promoting electric buses as gas prices soared for most Americans.
Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.), a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, tweeted, “The Biden Administration could not be more tone-deaf.”
“Vice President Kamala Harris and [Transportation] Secretary Pete Buttigieg spent the afternoon promoting electric vehicles and Green New Deal policies.
“Are you kidding me?” Mullin wrote.
Harris and her possible 2024 rival Buttigieg teamed up for an event celebrating the first anniversary of the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act, which passed last March with only Democratic support.
Neither Harris nor Buttigieg specifically mentioned gas prices while speaking in the White House-adjacent Eisenhower Executive Office Building — or the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which threatens to send those prices even higher.
Harris asked her audience to “imagine a future” with electric vehicles.
“Imagine a future: the freight trucks that deliver bread and milk to our grocery store shelves and the buses that take children to school and parents to work. Imagine all the heavy-duty vehicles that keep our supply lines strong and allow our economy to grow. Imagine that they produce zero emissions. Well, you all imagined it,” she said.

Let zem eat cake!
Tone Deaf is a very apt description of their viewpoint.
Those electric cars only cost 2-5X as much. But when you make $2M/year on guvmint corruption, paying $80k for a car is nuthin. So they become tone deaf.
What's old is new again.
My husband was driving up from Atlanta to NC and heard on a talk show that there wasn’t enough on the power grid to charge electric cars if everyone switched. Only about 18% would be charged at any one time and charging stations would be miles long waits.
I had this neighbor whose son would drive a 2- 2.5 hr trip, depending on traffic, to see her. When he switched to some electric car the trip took him usually over 5 hours as he had to stop to charge and many times had to wait.
Imagine a neighborhood of battery fires....
The Global Socialists will now rush to make the results of the midterms and any future elections irrelevant, and their purposeful destruction of America as founded irreversable.
EVs are more expensive to own and operate over a 10 year span, when compared to ‘comparably’ equipped ICE cars
And, they’re not rally cleaner to operate than ICE vehicles, since they required electricity produced by coal and oil to get their electric batteries charged.
In the first year of the Biden administration construction of new wind power went down. After decades of prices coming down, solar panel prices went up while Joe was President and LG Electronics is shutting down their solar module manufacturing plant in Alabama.
Imagine it indeed, because reality bites.
This is when Real Republicans advance Legislation Mandating ALL Federal Employee’s use ONLY Electric Vehicles or Mass Public Transit to and from their respective workplace, and FORCE THE ISSUE!!!
Imagine when your area loses power from a storm or tornado, hurricane, or an accident.
Imagine your power shut off because you did something they don’t like.
zero emissions? how is that possible?
This is just a guess, but I’d bet there’s a waiting list for new Teslas that’s months long.
Drill! Drill! Drill!
We have the power to flood our refineries with fresh oil, do it!
“Harris asked her audience to “imagine a future” with electric vehicles...”
Hey Harris...imagine this!
“and heard on a talk show that there wasn’t enough on the power grid to charge electric cars if everyone switched.”
Red Herring. Impossible for everyone to ‘switch’.
