McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Pepsi resist Russia boycott calls over Ukraine war

Some of America’s biggest brands like McDonald’s, Coca-Cola and Pepsi are under growing pressure to cut business ties with Russia as social media users continue to express outrage over Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

The hashtags #BoycottMcDonalds and #BoycottCocaCola were trending on Twitter over the weekend as public opinion has remained overwhelmingly opposed to Russia’s military assault against its neighbor to the west.

The Post has reached out to McDonald’s, Coca-Coca and PepsiCo seeking comment.

I remember when McDonalds opened their first restaurant in Moscow back when it was still Soviet Russia. They had to have special potatoes grown in Russia for their fries.

Remember the movie “One, Two, Three”?

Peripetchikoff : No formula, NO DEAL!

C.R. MacNamara : OK, NO DEAL!

Borodenko : We do not need you! If we want Coca-cola, we invent it ourselves!

C.R. MacNamara : Oh, yeah? In 1956 you flew a bottle of Coke to a secret laboratory in Sverdlosk. A dozen of your top chemists went nuts trying to analyze the ingredients. Right?

Mishkin : No comment!

C.R. MacNamara : And in 1958, you planted two undercover agents in Atlanta to steal the formula. And what happened? They both defected! And now they’re successful businessmen in Florida packaging instant borscht. Right?

Peripetchikoff : No comment!

C.R. MacNamara : Last year you put out a cockamamie imitation “Kremlin-kola!” You tried it out in the satellite countries, but even the Albanians wouldn’t drink it. They used it for SHEEP DIP! RIGHT?

Mishkin : No comment!

C.R. MacNamara : So either get down to business or get off the pot!

Peripetchikoff : My dear American friend, if we are to live together in peaceful coexistence, there must be a certain amount of give and take.

C.R. MacNamara : Oh, sure - we give and you take.

Peripetchikoff : What is the matter - you do not trust us?

C.R. MacNamara : No comment!

It doesn’t seem to me that these brands necessarily have to abandon their business in Russia, these products are not urgently needed to keep the government running

“As young men goose-stepped in formation at Hitler Youth rallies,” writes Pendergrast, “Coca-Cola trucks accompanied the marchers, hoping to capture the next generation.”
Keith put Coke at the center — literally — of a 1937 exhibition showcasing Nazi Germany’s industry. He built a working bottling plant in the middle of the fair, where a company photographer snapped Göering enjoying a Coke.

German troops captured Czechoslovakia’s Sudetenland region in February of 1938. In March, Hitler annexed Austria. Woodruff and Coke Germany argued over who should get the sales royalties from occupied Austria. Coke’s Woodruff won.
That month, Keith held a convention for Coke Germany’s 1,500 salesmen and bottlers. Journalist Ralph McGill describes “a giant picture of Hitler that covered the entire back wall — a picture that inspired frequent stiff-armed salutes and shouts of ‘Heil, Hitler!’” Keith, speaking from beneath a huge Coca-Cola banner bearing three enormous swastikas, called for a massive Sieg-Heil! in the Führer’s honor.”

"McDonald’s, Coca-Cola and Pepsi "

So what's the problem here? Just rename them in Russia to McPutin's, Puta-Cola, and Putski. Problem solved.

These boycotts and sanctions won’t do much to Pukin. The only thing this guy understands is the smoking end of a gun.

Personally I am against any boycotts as a business has one and only one responsibility, returning the highest possible return for it’s shareholders.

That being said, These company’s all wear their monumental wokeism on their corporate sleeves so the level of hypocrisy in this case is brazenly offensive.

I saw a recent report that Coca-Cola generates something like 20% of its global revenue in Russia.

It's the same thing that drives the NBA to kiss Chinese @sses no matter how brutal and totalitarian the Chinese government may be.

If these companies pull out, Russia will soon declare itself the healthiest country in the world.

Why punish the regular people when the leaders are the problem? We have the same situation.

Woka-Cola, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, and Pepsi are under the control of WOKE management.

Much better to drink seltzer water with lemon. Your body, and soul, will benefit immensely.

And, Big Macs and processed pizza aren’t exactly health foods.

I remember when McDonalds opened their first restaurant in Moscow back when it was still Soviet Russia. They had to have special potatoes grown in Russia for their fries.

I remember being at the train station in Kiev, a building the size of an airport filled with thousands of people at any given time, and none of the public restrooms were working.

The employees helpfully suggested that anyone who needed to use the restroom to please do so at the McDonald's across the street.

I wonder if those places are “self sufficient?” If they can operate without capital or supplies from the outside…there really is nothing the US can do.

There is a Coke plant up the street. They don’t “need” Atlanta to produce Coke.

the movie “One, Two, Three”

I couldn't finish that movie, what with all the characters screaming their lines.
