I think if you went to the utmost fear level, why sure, you’re
right. The problem with that theory is, Latvia gave up nukes
and hasn’t rearmed in a nuclear sense since joining NATO.

Estonia does have nukes either. Both countries border Russia.
Both are in NATO.

I don’t see the E. U. ever attacking a nation like Russia.
It has nukes. It has a fairly good army.

It just wouldn’t happen.

If the Ukraine did signal it was going to rearm with
nuclear weapons, then I think Putin would have a valid
claim to prevent it.

I’d back his play in that eventuality.

It’d be too late then

His reasoning is like the guy playing the Tony Accardo role when discussing killing Dorfman in Casino

“Why take a chance?”

That’s not Putins only reasoning ...there are many...Russian ethnics is a big one

The rest I can only guess

Kiev is to him like Kosovo to Serbs

That’s a guess

Obviously he wants the Crimea for ports

I’m surpoesed Odessa is getting a pass which I think was once a near majority Jewish center in the Ukraine before WWII

How many times has western Europe attacked Russia in the last 100 years or so? Didn't Germany sneak Karl Marx into Russia to cause a revolution?

Ww1 Germany attacks Russia
Ww2 Germany attacks Russia
Napoleonic wars France, Germany attack Russia.

Maybe, just maybe Russia has reason to be a little paranoid.
