I think it started when he and Steve Kirsch went on Bret Weinstein’s podcast to talk about the pandemic and vaccines in June 2021 in an episode called How to Save the World in 3 Easy Steps.

The podcast was heavily censored and the establishment tried to cancel Dr. Malone for not submitting to the establishment narrative.
