Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky lashed NATO on Friday for ruling out a no-fly zone over his country saying the Western military alliance knew further Russian aggression was likely.
Earlier Friday, NATO rejected Ukraine’s request to impose a no-fly zone to halt Russia’s bombing, but Western allies did warn President Vladimir Putin of fresh sanctions if he does not stop the war.
“Knowing that new strikes and casualties are inevitable, NATO deliberately decided not to close the sky over Ukraine,” Zelensky said in a video published by the presidency.
“We believe that the NATO countries themselves have created a narrative that the closing of the skies over Ukraine would provoke direct Russian aggression against NATO.”

Zelensky could probably keep parts of the Ukraine if he gave up the pipeline revenue for Russian oil and gas. I remember seeing articles about Russia not happy with the transit pricing several years ago... that that money could be part of why Russia might eventually create a situation where they don’t give up the money.
Greed. The only good thing that can come out of this war is less dependence of Russian oil by the USA, Germany, Italy and others in Europe. The best thing that can happen is the USA starts being engery independent again.
serbia?

The Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances comprises three identical political agreements signed at the OSCE conference in Budapest, Hungary on 5 December 1994 to provide security assurances by its signatories relating to the accession of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). The memorandum was originally signed by three nuclear powers: the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States. China and France gave somewhat weaker individual assurances in separate documents.[1]
The memorandum included security assurances against threats or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. As a result of other agreements and the memorandum, between 1993 and 1996, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine gave up their nuclear weapons.[2]

1994 Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances
At the time of Ukraine’s independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, Ukraine held the third largest nuclear arsenal in the world, including an estimated 1,800 strategic warheads, 176 long-range ballistic missiles, and 42 strategic bombers.
To solidify security commitments to Ukraine, the United States, Russia, and the United Kingdom signed the December 5, 1994 Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances. The memorandum included assurances against the threat or use of force against Ukraine’s territory or political independence. The countries promised to respect the sovereignty and existing borders of Ukraine.
The United States took custody and control of Ukraine’s obsolete nuclear stockpiles for disposal in exchange for assurances by the United States and NATO to safeguard Ukraine’s independence. Ukraine was coaxed to give up it nuclear weapons in exchange for a written pledge, should Ukraine ever be threatened or invaded, the United States would be there to intervene with military power.
By 1996, Ukraine had returned all of its operational nuclear warheads to Russia in exchange for economic aid and security assurances, and Ukraine became a non-nuclear weapon state party to the 1968 nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT). The last strategic nuclear delivery vehicle in Ukraine was eliminated in 2001 under the 1991 Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START). It took years of political maneuvering and diplomatic work, starting with the Lisbon Protocol in 1992, to remove the weapons and nuclear infrastructure from Ukraine.[21]
I was apologizing only from the standpoint that the occupier did not supply sufficient weapons in a timely manner, no other reason.
The Holy spirit has nudged me toward the same. When I saw that putrid video of Ukrain leader it was icing on the cake.
Bkmk
Well, Western Europe, at least.
But Eastern Europe? Not so much. Truman threw it to the dogs at Potsdam. He handed Eastern Europe to the Communists on a silver platter.
Regards,
How has that been working out for the Finns, anyway?
Invasion by Russia, anyone?
Loss of Karelia, anyone?
Finnlandization, anyone?
Regards,
“Was it over when the Russians bombed Pearl Harbor?!”
THIS!
“So, in some way, there was no way to avoid this war, bears poked or not. The only thing that could have avoided a war at this time would be if we had a president who looked the part, who issued mean Tweets and everyone accused of being “crazy.””
My thoughts exactly.
Well well
Churchill is mad
Ukraine is no more democratic than Russia...well maybe 5%
Well said
Like the polish Uke war
Or massive Uke collaboration killing Jews
My Take, He is directing this show to the media, death destruction dead babies and their mothers to ratchet up public opinion to force the so called leaders who are directing this and on board sitting in the wings and waiting for the right time to jump in. Have we all forgotten just a few months ago Biden, hunter and the Ukraine. Now all of a sudden he’s a hero screaming he wants the west to save him, very suspicious
I never loved either George Bush. The first was old school RiNO and the younger one got my vote by default. I did not support him during the primary. His compassionate conservatism BS fooled a lot of people including many of us here at FR.
This is going to be an unpopular opinion, but I think Zelensky is an idiot. He is responsible for all the death and destruction in his country. He should have agreed to the demands of no NATO and weapons on the Russian border. There are rumors that Putin is sick, things change. He could have been patient.
Standing firm has cost him countless lives and the complete destruction of his infrastructure. And Russia is going to get what it wants anyway.
And no I am not a commie or Putin lover, just a realist.
