Conservative congregations fear the denomination could eventually swing more toward progressives
The Global Methodist Church, a new denomination of theologically conservative Methodists, will officially launch on May 1, a move that was expected for some time in the fight over full inclusion of the LGBTQ community.
The issue of full inclusion has been brewing in the United Methodist Church for decades.
In 2019, the denomination upheld and strengthened prohibitions against the ordination of non-celibate LGBTQ clergy and performing same-sex marriages.

There’s about $65 billion in real estate involved here. The leftists aren’t going to let that go without a fight.
Why do the larger, good side be the ones who leave?
Fixed the headline for ya.
Distorted comment from the AJC (See Tagline).
No one is ever excluded from the Methodist Church. However, some churches & ministers will not pretend that homosexuality is normal and thus will not perform gay "marriages".
A homosexual who is truly seeking a better relationship with Jesus Christ is also seeking a way to overcome their abnormal sexual desires and the church will try to help them.
I guess “conservative” is relative. They’ll just take the poison of female ordination with them.
The United Methodist Church and all its component congregations are toast.
If it weren’t for the Africa United Methodists, the Global Methodist Church would not happen. They are extremely conservative, having kept the faith as it was preached in the beginning of missions to Africa.
This is precisely my understanding. The group working on this split are themselves professors at predominantly liberal US Theological Schools. Their focus is narrowed to the issue of the ordination of practicing homosexuals.
Orthodox Christian theology or Weslyan practices have nothing to do with their efforts. Their stated intent is to maintain a bonded relationship with the progressive United Methodist Church.
There will be churches that seek to become Orthodox. They will be stymied by the new denomination's leadership that remains progressive to the core.
This issue is brought on primarily by the churches in Africa and South America which balked at ordaining homosexuals at the General Conference in 2016. This effort will not satisfy those conferences. Nor will it be acceptable to churches seeking a Bible centered theology.

The August 19 date refers solely to the adoption of the gaysbian agenda, NOT to the “Full Communion” agreement.
Keep a Good Lent!
United Methodist has LONG been trouble. They’ve been pushing garbage for at least 25 years.
“There’s about $65 billion in real estate involved here. The leftists aren’t going to let that go without a fight.”
The original agreement specified that real estate would remain with the local congregations. I don’t know if the Global Methodists jumping the gun on the divorce will affect this.
I hoped that the conservatives would remain in the UMC and encourage the liberals to form a new group, if they didn’t want to preach the Bible.
I wasn’t aware there was any such thing as a conservative in the Methodist church. Modern Methodists have John Wesley turning over in his grave.
