Florida first lady Casey DeSantis is considered cancer-free following treatment and surgery for breast cancer.
Gov. Ron DeSantis made the announcement Thursday.
"After going through both treatment and surgery for breast cancer, she is now considered cancer-free," Ron DeSantis said in a statement. "All of you who have given thoughts and prayers to my family and my wife, thank you. It’s lifted her spirits and made a tremendous difference.
The first lady’s diagnosis was made public in October. The governor in late January said she finished chemotherapy treatments.
The 41-year-old Casey DeSantis has played an active role in her husband’s administration, often appearing alongside the governor at official events.
The couple has three children.
“There are no words to express how truly blessed, grateful and humbled I am to hear the words cancer free,” Casey DeSantis said in the statement. “To those who are in the fight, know there is hope. Have faith and stay strong.”

I thought doctors suggested waiting up to 5 years before declaring someone to be cancer-free. My daughter had breast cancer 4 1/2 years ago, and was told that she needed to be checked every 6 months, for about 5 years, before she was declared cancer-free.
They would look great in The Whitehouse
This will also have some political implications at the right time.

Is always Great News when someone beats cancer
My wife is four years into triple negative breast cancer. Her oncologist told her this week that once she gets to 5, she’ll have the same life expectancy as other women her age. He said he’d never declare her to be cancer-free - it only takes one cell.

Me, too with colon cancer. Passed the five year point five years ago and had a clear colonoscopy last year.

Most oncologists say NED - no evidence of disease. Hormone receptor positive cancer can metastasize 10 - 20+ years after initial diagnosis. Once diagnosed, we are never cancer free.
