JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Increasing gas prices are steering more drivers toward electric cars.
In fact, BMW of Jackson Sales Manager Landon Tucker said they’re selling out before they even get to the store.
Tucker said he’s noticed an uptick in electric and hybrid car sales for the last eighteen months but that the war overseas is driving the demand even higher.
“I had a friend text me yesterday, and he was never interested in electric vehicles. But he finally said, ‘After seeing what’s happening in Ukraine and the fact that we depend on Russia for so much oil, it really makes you want to go electric because you can fuel that with stuff you produce domestically,’” he said.
According to Gas Buddy, prices across the country are up nearly nineteen cents from last week. As for Mississippi, the average price for fuel is about $3.40, which is up about twenty cents from a week ago.
“People are realizing that they’re spending a lot of money on gasoline and so it’s leading to more energy dependence,” Tucker said. “You can actually think of it as an ‘America-first kind of prospect’ by going with an electric vehicle.”
While the price of a gallon of gas is the biggest contributing factor, Tucker said there’s a couple other reasons as well.
The first is simply that electric cars look more like those that run on gas nowadays.
“The electric vehicles from the early 2010s were just compliance cars,” he said. “They were not cars that people actually really wanted to have.”
The second reason, Tucker said, is convenience.
“You just don’t have to do as many different things. You don’t have a transmission that is going to need replacing, and you don’t have oil changes... things like that.”
For all these reasons, Tucker said the rise in drivers turning toward electric will continue for years to come.
“We’ve got our two electric vehicles that are officially launching this month. Chevrolet is going to be launching the all electric Silverado in late 2024. They’ve got the electric Blazer and the electric Equinox coming. And then Lexus has said that they are going to be all electric by 2030 in the United States,” he said. “It’s without a doubt coming down the pipe.”
I wonder where the raw materials for those batteries comes from and where they are made. Oh, and how are they charged? Fairy dust?
They sold 3 more cars.. meanwhile the rest of the world is waiting for the Biden regime to turn back on the oil.
It’s happening exactly as they intended.
Yeah EVs don’t have oil changes and other stuff. It’s a different set of rules but they aren’t cure alls. They come with their own set of problems. Up front cost is one since they are more expensive than a comparable gas car. To start saving money one would have to use the EV for quite a while to make up the difference although with the way gas is right now perhaps somewhat shorter.
Nope, just a $22,000 batter and/or the house it burned up.
Pain at the pump replaced with heart failure on seeing the electric bill.
Absolutely as intended.
It’s a “transition”:

“You’ll own nothing and you’ll be happy.”
Here’s a ‘crisis’ and the solution for every crisis? More government control making things worse.
Ask this..why is it since these vehicle are so special, that the fire departments and rescue squads are being taught “special” instructions on how to rescue people out of those things in a crash?
This isn’t news. It’s an advertisement.
Yea a week old war has spiked electric car sales?
Please…
Propaganda
Exactly.
There was - and may still be - the Soros-funded “Media Matters” group. It puts out the stories and wording and angle all the little followers should use.
So you’ll see 100 stories exactly like this one pop up: “Electric is the way to go. It’s America First to go electric. Gas is a thing of the past.”
It’ll look like a reporter doing a story but it’s all part of THE NARRATIVE.
THE NARRATIVE. This is the way the Dems/globalists want you to see reality. If they can shift that, every thing will go through that altered filter.
For example. A dude with a penis can declare they are a woman and everyone has to go along with that changing pronouns (her and she in every media story about said person). That becomes the new orthodoxy. Then anyone not conforming to that orthodoxy is committing a thought crime (deadnaming or misgendering). Anyone who questions it can be destroyed so those complaining do so anonymously. Not only is this something to be accepted, but to be celebrated with magazine covers and awards and honors.
Gas prices have tripled due to Keystone XL shut down and domestic independence ended within the year of Biden occupying the White House. Disaster.
So THE NARRATIVE: oil is bad. Climate change. Oil is bad. Foreign bad actors are enriched. Solution to their created crisis: electric. Just plug in and no gas = no foreign dependence.
Where do these batteries come from? How do you pay the electric bill? What if there’s an outage or rolling blackouts? Don’t ask those questions as they upset the narrative.
Look for ‘local stories’ like this to pop up over the next week as the marching orders go out.
These are gas, coal and nuclear powered cars.
I assure you, work still requires a force to be applied and just because there is no exhaust pipe, does not mean they are “zero emissions.”
These cars are semi cost effective because of massive government subsidies to the manufacturer, tax breaks for the purchaser, more government spending on charging stations...
Electric cars = welfare for the rich.
Back when Chevrolet released the Volt, I did a financial comparison to another Chevrolet that shared the same platform.
When government subsidies were removed, one would see economic equilibrium at 300,000 miles. That doesn’t include battery replacement costs.
Electric cars are toys for the economically illiterate.
Flame away EV people.
Replacing “fossil-fueled” vehicles with “plug-in” EVs is just kicking the can down the road. There is already or shall very soon be, a very limiting factor on electric vehicle adoption, and that would be capacity to manufacture enough battery units to supply this demand for electric vehicles. Add to that the reliance on an electrical grid that will soon prove to be inadequate to the new demands that will be made upon the generation and distribution of electric power.
Without onboard power generation specifically for EVs, this idea is essentially a futile gesture and a fool’s errand. I am not saying EVs can’t work, but this strategy won’t work for the vast majority of the persons who have to depend on some kind of vehicle to carry out their daily needs.
Also, they are disposable cars.
Finite battery life cycles = a car that needs replaced after a very defined time. The Toyota Camry that you drive for 300,000 miles over 22 years... not so much with an EV.
How “green” is it to build a new vehicle rather than run one longer?
That’s because electricity is free 😂 and EV’s are cheap!
——Back when Chevrolet released the Volt,——
Recently I have seen videos where the Chevy EV was called the Bolt. I thought it was the Volt all along
Any way, the annual sales was less than Tesla daily sales
GM is in serious trouble
I look forward to tragedy and serious problems for the traitorous UAW thief families.

Volt was a EV with a small gas engine backup. Not really a hybrid but mostly EV.
The Bolt is pure EV and a total failure.
The Bolt has a fire hazard warning not to park in garages or near buildings or other cars.
Then there’s the ship full of cars, including EV’s the burned and sank last week.
