He reports that Zelensky said that "Russian Tanks are shooting at the nuclear blocks".

David Reaboi also uses some harsh language, both of Zelensky and of the media, which I can't link past. But I'm trying to focus on Zelensky's actual claim here.

Either Zelensky just made up a load of inflammatory nonsense that the media eagerly repeated, or Russian tankers are amazingly bad shots.

I seriously doubt the Russians had/have any interest in releasing radiation from the reactor. Probably the intent was to destroy the means of delivering the electricity produced by the plant.
