A Virginia substitute teacher has been suspended after expressing approval of Russian President Vladimir Putin's decision to invade Ukraine and urging students to read Russian propaganda outlets including Sputnik News.
Arlington Public Schools suspended John Stanton, 65, who made the comments during an eighth-grade Spanish lesson on Friday at Swanson Middle School.
Stanton told the Washington Post he offered an opposing viewpoint about Russia's barbaric invasion of Ukraine for the first 10 minutes of a 90-minute class while expressing approval of Putin's decision to invade.

Oh you can’t do that Mr teacher - the 1st amendment has been abolished for common folks 🤪
Never permissible for schools these days. No matter what the topic.
When an alternate view pointS s suppressed and the article contains editorializing (Putin’s barbaric invasion) it should make people wary.
Only our deep state run propaganda is allowed! No other state run propaganda is approved by our propagandists. It’s all a big joke.
Land of the Free, baby!
But it is no different on the stupidity scale than thousands of comments by leftists sycophants in teaching positions that get passes.
Kinda outside the framework of an 8th grade Spanish class teaching lesson don’t ya think?
I remember during 9/11, there were some professors and students in university who cheered. Nothing happened. Strange times we live in.
Not when they teach sex education in home ec, and climate change in biology, and climate change in History, and climate change in English, and sex ed in Gym.
“I personally think this teacher is an idiot and it is inappropriate for a Spanish class. But it is no different on the stupidity scale than thousands of comments by leftists sycophants in teaching positions that get passes.”
Agreed!
'The statement I think that got me was I said, "I personally support the logic of Putin," and what I meant by that is, he made a rational decision from his perception,' Stanton said.
Man's an idiot, by saying "I personally support the logic of Putin". That's completely different from listing reasons why Putin invaded.
Reading about WHY Russia embarked on this action is important. This was not done for no reason at all.
And you need to know the perspective of the Ukrainians and ethnic minorities in the country.
Then figure out what WE need to do to avoid going to war. We don’t need another WWI and allow ourselves to be manipulated into a major conflict.
“... made the comments during an eighth-grade Spanish lesson ...”
I don’t care where a teacher is on the political spectrum, this is NOT OK. Doesn’t matter whether the subject was raised by the teacher or the student.
If a student asks a question during class that is not relevant to the subject being taught, then the teacher should shut it down, i.e., “Let’s stay on topic.”
Students commonly try to distract the teacher by asking off-topic questions during class. Young, insecure teachers go along and try to endear themselves to the students. Mature, disciplined teachers stay focused on the lesson.
If only Tucker Carlson was available in Spanish. They could get the Russian point of view without having to read.
The First Amendment doesn’t apply to what teachers say in the classroom to kids while they they are on the clock. Employees of any kind don’t get to set the rules for their own employment.
I do know that there were a couple of doctors who cheered at 9/11 in the Cleveland Clinic, and they were fired.
First they came for the antivaxxers, now they’re coming after anyone who challenges their politically correct narrative regarding Ukraine. The message is becoming clearer all the time - if you dare to deviate from the State sanctioned narrative you can be fired from your job or in some cases find your bank account frozen. Financial tyranny seems to be their weapon of choice lately, both domestically and internationally in regards to Russia.
“Russia didn’t want to invade but Ukraine insisted”
"He didn't want to nail my head to the floor, I had to insist, there's nothing Dinsey wouldn't do for you."
